|08/10/2003 16:49:00||Richard|| What is happening this month? after bending the competition car a guy decided I need more off road experience and side swiped the Shed off the road on my way to work this morning.
He was stuck up the arse of a slow van, so when I could see it was clear I indicated to overtake and was level with the front of his car when he decided to pull out and go past the van. How he did not see me I dont know, he also should go for a hearing test as the shed is not quiet.
Anyway he side swiped me off the road as he still tried to keep turning right even after the first impact, so I ended up going through wet grass bracken and ramping it over a banking back onto the road in front of the van, well you dont brake on wet grass!

With a sign on the front explaining that although this looks old it still is travelling at the same speed as everyone else. Something like 'get out of the way' on the bonet, could be a good option. I find people fall into two groups on the road, ones that like old cars and give you repect and others which find an old car behind them as blemishing their or their modern cars reputation and will go tp anything to stop you overtaking etc. There is a bloke in a Volvo T70 that will pull over and block me overtaking him on the way to work????? I dont want to do 45mph on a straight 60mph road.|

|09/10/2003 17:45:45||James||I was surprised at how many drivers show no respect, or rather, are disrespectful! I have a 96 v4 and a Volvo Amazon both more than capable of keeping up with modern traffic and yet still people try to overtake me in a dangerous way with glaring looks as they do so. This never happens to me in my modern car. Weird!
|09/10/2003 18:37:09||Alec||You are right, I seem top suffer from this as well. My favorite trick is to get up to 80-85 on the dual carriageway and overtake the offendor. As you come along side let off the throttle so you freewheel past almost silently. You really get strange looks then!|
|09/10/2003 21:34:22||James||Good plan Alec, if they are hogging my tail so close that you can see the whites of their eyes, brake really late at the next set of traffic lights and watch them panic!!! They don't realise the old 96 can stop as good, if not better, than their modern car.
|10/10/2003 00:12:24||Alistair||Another good trick for tailgaters relies on you having a bit of a sloppy gear linkage. In top, pull the stick towards you to get the reversing lights to come on...and watch the numpty back off fast!
Bad luck Rich, better go smash a lens or summat else small, quick, to get your three strikes over with!
So anyway, you guys must really hate me, what with my "Vauxsaab" (it's got 258 lb ft of torque - = to 3 and a bit V4s - so I'm not complaining!) and my wife's Ovlov V4(0)...
|10/10/2003 07:45:52||Richard||Yeh but it is power to weight ratio and you have got too many pointless toys in your Vauxsaab so its heavy. I have a Ginetta G15 with a tuned Imp engine of 930cc and it kills supercars oh and keeps up with bikes round the twisty bits. You can get over 200bhp/ton with this car and it is better balanced than a Lotus 7 copy.|

|13/10/2003 08:10:24||Richard||THe G15 was band via rule changes from racing in the road going classes as only a Pantera could beat it. In the 1980's they mixed the under 1300cc road going class at Donny park with the Ferrari class and the 1 litre G15's finished 2, 3, 4, 5, 7th in the race.
Even in the 750 mc races today they mix it with GT racing Porkers on tracks like Cadwell. The Clan Crusader on its first rally finished second on the manx international to Roger clark's 230bhp bda escort. They also won the modsports championship outright in the 80's. The clan will be about 6 sec behined a lotus Elise race cup car in a 750 mc race around Oulton Park.
A Viggen will not even keep up with the V4 rally car, neither will a Suberu wrc road car (driven one). A competition car has a huge chunk of power over a narrowish rev range, but when the gearbox ratio's allow you to use full power all of time it is quicker than a road car which only gets its manufacturers figure on a good day right at the top of the rev range which no body uses.
I am sure the rally beast will fill turn your pants brown, it is lighter than the std road car and will do this over gravel and the moon but requires a good bit of driver skill compared to my G15 which is quicker than the rally car on smooth tar.

|13/10/2003 12:27:20||Richard||A guy called Lister used to hillclimb a 998cc G15 with a turbo fitted, on the rollers it was calculated to have 170bhp. A modified 2ltr Turbo should then produce 340bhp and must be lighter than 1 ton as Listers car is less than 1/2 ton. All this from an engine designed as a waterpump for the army at the end of the 50's/early 60's. Oh try reving your saab engine to 12000 rpm, who needs VVT.|

First G15 I ever saw was owned by a chap who lived near us when I was a kid. He hadn't even painted the shell in order to save weight - just bare GRP!
Hmm, 340 bhp/ton would be a bit nice
