|03/03/2004 12:31:23||Steve B||I'd like to ask peoples opinion on improving the cooling of a V4 car. All the 96's I've owned have always run hot in the summer especialy when stood in traffic.
What is the best solution to this ?
A larger radiator ?
An electric fan ?
A re-cored radiator with more fins ?
Any input welcome.
|03/03/2004 12:57:02||Richard||I HAD THE RAD RE-CORED WITH AN EXTRA ROW FOR AROUND £80, THEN AN ELECTRIC FAN WAS FITTED. I RUN THIS SETUP ON STAGE RALLIES AND HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS.
I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT A MODEL OF RANGE ROVER WAS FITTED WITH TWO SLIM LINE FANS IN ONE HOUSING, THE HOUSING CAN BE CUT SO YOU CAN HAVE ONE SLIM FAN TO GO INFRONT OF THE RAD. THE OTHER OPTION IS A APPROX 10" KENLOW OR SIMILAR (CHECK DIMS) AND SQUEEZE THIS IN FRONT OF THE RAD (YOU MAY HAVE TO MAKE SOME LONGER TOP RAD STRAPS). THIS WAY MEANS YOU ONLY HAVE TO REMOVE THE STD FAN AND YOU DONT HAVE TO BUTCHER THE ENGINE FRONT COVER ALLOWING YOU TO REVERT BACK TO THE STD MECHANICAL DRIVE EASILY.
|09/03/2004 13:30:31||steve h||with a standard engine a 3 core rad will be fine. If you are still not happy, something is wrong with your engine. If you have modified for performance, you can then add a 10" kenlow and block the airflow from leaking over the top and round the sides of the rad with aluminium angles. And then if you are still not happy, try a 13row oil cooler behind the rad on a aluminium angle frame screwed to the top and bottom steel structure of the rad frame.|
