|16/08/2004 08:02:52||Richard||I have had my long term Saab project on the road for the first time and apart from the luminition unit failing and needing replacing the beast was great.
The engine pulls from 2000rpm and at the 2000-4000 range is a lot better than my rally car, this thing has loads of torque and sounds like a Suberu for some reason. I will have to run it in to see what the top end is like, but if what I sampled is anything to go by its going to be a rocket.

|17/08/2004 07:54:36||Richard||1815cc, twin 40 webers on CT manifold, 7.6cam with lightend lifters, forged pistons, copper ringed block, alloy rocker supports, big valved head fully ported, scorpio rods arp bolts, uprated S&R spring in oil pump, oil cooler, lightend fly wheel, paddle clutch with uprated spring cover, home made stainless through the floor exhaust with 900 mid silencer and abbot racing 9000 back box (9000 back box has nearly the correct bends to fit on edge). All powered through a spec 1 & 1/2 box.
|18/08/2004 00:26:57||Alistair||What is Spec 1 & 1/2 mate? Which bits have you used from which gear set?!|
|18/08/2004 07:48:49||Richard||Drop gears from a spec 2 and spec 1 gear set. It gives you a higher 2nd that is very close to 3rd. I will have to check the other ratios as it was several years ago when I decided to do this. I think from memory 1st and second are higher that a spec 1, the others are the same as spec 1.|

THAT'S NOT FAIR.
|18/08/2004 10:49:40||Richard||It cost a fair bit and a lot of time finding the bits, a load of parts were P Darlingtons cast-offs and I was lucky with the rest. I dont think I could find the parts as easy to do it again! Better buying a car with them on.|
|18/08/2004 21:15:22||ian||converted to two-stroke she would be lovely!!|
|19/08/2004 07:59:12||Richard||Hey I might be going to Oulton in her so I will Take a plug lead off if you want a drive on three cylinders (still go better than a stroker on three).|
I'm back from France, so come on over in that beast!
|24/08/2004 22:45:28||Alistair||I think from memory you're right - the spec 1 had higher 1st & second, std 3rd and lower 4th. Spec 2 had even higher/closer 1st & 2nd, higher 3rd, not sure about 4th, think it was standard, but tended to be used with shorter final drive ??|
|25/08/2004 07:41:57||Richard||Yes its very close, its like having two 2nds or two thirds with slightly different ratios. I have been to work in the car for the last two days, goes well in the rain. Just bedding the engine in so not using above 4000, but she shifts at this. I seem to have got 40 webers to work for mid range, I will see if they will go the whole hog when I have clocked up a few more miles.|
|25/08/2004 09:54:57||simon||Dear Richard,
have you altered / uprated the cars braking system?
|25/08/2004 12:22:56||Richard||Its running all new parts and mintex 1144 pads, if these are not up to it then I have some 1166 pads which I used at Elvington with freewheel and no brake fade. I have got 1144's to fade with freewheel and heavy braking for slow corners at the end of long straights but not 1166's. If you run solid drive 1144's can take most of the abuse you can throw at them.|
|26/08/2004 10:58:03||erik||Richard, could you put some picures of the beast in the gallery ?|
|29/08/2004 17:30:08||bill rawles||Richard
Where are you obtaining your Mintex pads from? I've had a set on order through Demon Tweeks since December but Mintex themselves do not seem to know when they might be able to supply them. Has somebody got a stock?
|01/09/2004 07:51:59||Richard||Questmead are my favoured supplier, but I have a few sets spare scrubed for the rally car, so I have not bought any for a while.
Tom has some photo's on his digi to post some time.
