09/05/2005 07:48:46   Richard   We blew the Dino away and won the class at Scamonden Hillclimb on Sunday. I think there are a few more seconds to come from the car and the driver. I have so much torque low down it is a nightmare to stop the wheels lighting up. I built the car to have more low down torque than my rally car, but it probably has too much, its like driving with a V8.
Out of interest we are running some Bridgestone 175/65 15", they are only 165mm to 175mm wide on 4.5 rims and fit under the rear arches fine. They are a smaller overall diameter than 70 and 80 profile tyres. Cost was 58ea fitted.

I reckon if you don't mind losing a little gearing that those 175/65s are going to become THE road tyre for V4s if you want performance. That's at least one good thing to thank the BMW MINI for...

I knew it all along! the V4 is the better car!
09/05/2005 12:34:00   Richard   I need to find a couple of seconds to be up with 2ltr Escorts (going on previous events), but I am in a slightly lower capacity class than them in the overall championship, but I will get lumped with the 2ltrs on odd events like the 208 Dino.

But how do you get the engine to be so torquey low down?
16/05/2005 07:51:33   Richard   Its a long throw 1700 crank, big valves, 7.6 cam which is better than most re-grind cams as it produces a wider power band and the real trick if there was one was down choking the carbs to 35mm instead of 38mm. It gets a better flow of gases low down instead of right at the top end. I lose a bit above 6000rpm, but gain under that by having the power band closer to the torque band. It also allows the use of more common twin 40 bodies instead of 45's.
