14/12/2005 11:01:11   James Ayres   A friend of mine said it sounded weird that my crankshaft bearings were knackered on such a low mileage (57k) well cared for (fsh) car! What can cause them to go? I don't know!  
14/12/2005 11:25:27   john   I agree with your friend James very odd for a V4 to have crankshaft trouble at that mileage, even more so if it it has been when it has been well cared for, I would take it to another garage for a 2nd opinion  
14/12/2005 12:40:35   Richard   The only things are oil starvation or old oil run for a long time (years) in the engine. The wrong oil, ie too thin or a very rich carb washing petrol into the oil. If you havent had any of these then it is not the crank. Plus the balance shaft bearings would probably wear out quicker than the crank bearings as they are last in the bottom end oil feed.
A shreaded timing gear can send fibres into the oil and block the oil pump pickup mesh.
