T O P I C R E V I E W | Chicago Turtle | Posted - 14 Jul 2016 : 17:06:21 I have a cast iron gearbox and special II gearset coming my direction. Are there any different or particular areas I should pay attention two when swapping in the spec gears? This transmission will be going into a Sonett III for road race use.
Thanks for the helpful advice.

Use a steel 2/stroke speedo gear and don't use shim steel shims on the pinion shaft build up. You need the correct saab rig to set the pinion position and this needs to be as forward as it can within the build spec and gear tol (marked on the end of the pinion). You need a long thin set of pullers to pull the pinion bearing out during build up and a press to get the gear off the pinion shaft. I build the diff so there is only a bit of movement on the tightest spot on rally boxes to reduce backlash killing the c&p, but on the road this would be less of a problem. Check bearings dogs on gears, synchros etc and hope you have a good pinion bearing. |
