With the help of a local "SAAB man", I have this morning gone to fit a new CV boot, on the right side.

While it was all apart, it was logical to change the wheel bearing as well.

However, when we made everything up again, tightened the castle nut etc, before even apply the correct torque, the back of the disc was hard against the backplate. Not possible to turn the disc.
Stripped the new bearing out, and on comparing the thickness of the new bearing housing with the old, the new bearing seemed to be about 0.1 mm thinner. This brings the disc further in, and fouls it against the brake backplate.
We ended up refitting the old wheel bearing, which was still in good nick. Then all was fine.

I was just wondering if anyone has seen this problem before?

Yeah, I agree it does seem strange, but the disc was clearly up hard against the backplate, (before it was even torqued)and the disc wouldn't turn.

0,1mm shurely can not cause the disc to be hard on the backplate? It sounds not reasonable at all. It must be something else.

Hey Melle.
Ah, yes a little dig at the story about the pulley to sump clearance...ha ha.

Anyway, just seemed the logical thing to do, to change the wheel bearings while the assembly was out.
No idea how old the currently fitted ones are, though there was no play.
Just trying to understand the mechanics of it, and wondering of course if anyone else has seen the same problem before.

I have contacted the supplier, so we'll see what they say.

What is it with you and parts fitting too tightly Andy? Never had/ heard of this before. The factory (SKF?) front wheel bearings are virtually bullet proof, often well worth washing out and repacking with fresh grease. I've heard many people had aftermarket (Professional Parts Sweden/ Scantech) front wheel bearings fail prematurely.
