I am tired of the struggle to get the wheels on with this "daft" bolts system the 96 has, and would love to have a couple of short threaded bars that I could screw into two diametrically opposite bolts holes on the hubs, to aid putting the wheels on.
I currently use a large phillips head screw driver that does help a bit, but two short 9/16" UNC pieces of threaded bar would work much better.

I never thought it would be hard to find 9/16"UNC threaded bar, but it is turning into a mission. Tried about 3 places now....

Anyone got any ideas?

Andy

Had a couple of new tyres fitted to my front Soccerballs a few weeks ago. Saw the fitter was stuggling, so gave him my sawn-off bolt to use. Turned out that a week or so previously he had nearly lost the tip of an index finger trying to align the wheel/hub bolt holes on another car (not sure what). He was most impressed with the stud and is planning to make some up with different common threads to avoid the risk of it happening again !
The irony is that he is a piper, waiting for it to heal before he knows if it will affect his playing !

Thanks Rhys, just got mine today. Not used them yet but they look just perfect for the job! Talked to one of Phil Wilkes's service crew last year and he said they used them on the rally car to help change soccer ball wheels so really pleased you have made some - thanks again.

I have made a small refinement, as well as screwdriver slot in the end, I have drilled across them for a "tommy" bar 6 mm. I guess tere could be a cut in the thread to make a truly multi tool and then you would have a thread cleaner too!
Cost is £8 per pair posted 1st class.

I would welcome some as well please - just don't seem to have the knack of putting the wheels back on like I used to!!

I have just located a supplier who has enough for 4 sets (2 each) 4" bolts, so, if anyone wants some, first 3 people in can have the ones I don't want. I'll cut the heads off and slot for a screwdriver. Cost will be what they cost me plus postage.

Footnote.

They work a treat, wish I'd made a couple of these things up years ago!

Paul.
Thanks mate, I got a pair of 9/16" UNC bolts from an outfit call Margnor Fasteners Ltd.
I'll cut the heads off, and they'll do the job nicely I hope.
