I’m doing some repairs which started with a few prods with a screwdriver!! Rear wing removed and some new metal welded in etc etc. My question - do all the wing retaining screws go from inside the car outwards ? On the horizontal section below the rear window there appears to be holes for some screws, but no access behind/above. Betsy has some previous repairs here and the wing wasn’t really attached at this point, so I’m at a loss !

Lesson for today :- Do Not going prodding and and hammering!!
Think I could be cutting a major amount of seat/wheel arch out.

Very sound advice Andy.
Copperslip is my middle name [:-)] and do rather like hex head bolts too.

I had the same problem recently. For the edge below the rear window, with no access on the back side, rivnuts are the answer, but don't do what I did initially, and try and fit stainless steel ones. (I was thinking, SS, no corrosion).

Unless you've got a BIG rivnut tool, I found I could barely apply enough force to get them to squeeze closed.. Go for aluminium ones, a lot less force required.
I used metric 8 mm, ie they rivut takes an M8 bolt. Use stainless bolts, with allen heads on them for easy removal later.

Get a set of allen heads on 1/4" drive, so that you can use your ratchet handle on them, rather than faffing around with allen keys. In fact I used an adapter to my electric screwdriver, which made life VERY easy! ZZZZZZZ all done up!

Also when you drill the holes, make sure you paint the holes, otherwise it'll be a source of future corrosion. I also greased the rivnuts, before I put them in, for the same reason.
Finally I filled the cavity above, through the access holes in the boot, with wax for good measure!

Thank you for the info. Don’t think I’ll be too bothered about original thread size and will just go metric.

As original they are welded nuts. I was thinking rivnuts to replace the ones that will disappear when the rusty bit of panel is replaced, but haven't yet bothered to look for a UNF rivnut. Found these folks https://memfast.co.uk/shop/Vprod2.asp?cat=6138003713

That makes sense, but how ?
There’s just holes on mine. Ok for the the ones coming through the rear seat area as you can get a nut n bolt on. The ones going to the area under the rear window??
Thinking of getting a rivnut tool ?

The ones up the leading edge and the ones back as far as the rear window go from under th wing into the body shell, in the boot area they go the other way.
