Well, last Autumn I spotted something on the internet a long way away that I liked the look of.

After a few days of mulling it over I contacted the owner just out of curiosity. A few Facetimes later and I trusted him, we were both into similar stuff, bikes etc.

I didn't have any spare cash in the rust fund so put my 95 up for sale before I had a chance to do all the jobs I wanted to get done. As it happened it sold quickly so next was the turn of the K75S (BMW Bike for those not into two wheels!) and that was gone in a flash too.

Time for a bank transfer and by Christmas I was checking this every day.

More tomorrow!

After lots of faffing car now running well. Lots more jobs to do but having driven an hour each way to Cullompton happy the car is driving well. Sat at 60mph up Haldon Hill in 4th just tickling the throttle and felt like it would pick up and go if I floored it. Decided to show restraint though as first proper longish run and horrible weather so didn't want to break down!
It did develop an air leak through one of the throttle spindles which was annoying as recently rebuilt - the DGAS uses bearings rather than bushes. For the trip at the weekend I covered it in grease which was an effective temporary fix and wound the throttle stop in which did make the gears tricky to select due to high idle - be nice to drive it with this problem sorted.
Having a break now from Saab jobs and cracking on with some motorbike jobs for a couple of weeks then back to it.
Next job will be to try and get the DCD back on and working properly then it will be rebuilt engine in the 96 time.
Cheers

Hi Iain,
Good point about the fuel pressure gauge. Any other ideas for checking I have a good supply?
Glass filter also a good idea, I actually have one I could use.
No need for heads as Melle sorted me out a while back and had them refurbed with slightly bigger valves.
There is another forum member with another early 95 looking for heads, I will try and remember his user name.
Cheers

I seem to remember you wanting open deck heads? I have a pair willing to sell. Big valves and a bit opened-up. I can bring to Swedish day.

I doubt you will be able to read the fuel pressure at max load so the gauge not much use to you other than for checking idle, stationary revving etc. May I recommend a glass body fuel filter like this so you can see the crud being pulled out of the tank. Easy to clean-out and re-use. Under the rear seat or in engine bay before the pump. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150560856322

Inspired by the idea of having at least a partially working SAAB at Swedish Day I have spent a couple of hours last night and this evening tinkering.

After a bit of faffing it now runs off its own fuel and I am reasonably confident the fuel tank treatment process has worked.
I might try something like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284968825162 to check I am getting good fuel pressure though as am slightly paranoid the pick up pipe could be compromised by the paint process.

Here it is running

I have just guessed with the timing and to prove nothing is ever simple my temperamental timing light decided not to function at all this evening.

My guess is the strobe bulb itself has failed - it is an open circuit across the two ends, anyone know if that means it is broken and can it be replaced?

So, options are repair the timing light, buy a second hand one that might be broken or splash out on a decent new one. Or perhaps buy the 123 distributor I have been thinking about, as I understand it all set up is done by bluetooth on a tablet. Would like to get it running right as is though. Also, should mention I can't static time it as has electronic ignition.

They look awesome - I keep meaning to try mine - but the wheels are in the attic!

Thanks Simon - these look good too!

Car still broken though!

Looks great!

Right, been chipping away at this one and boot floor now sorted.

Got the fuel tank back in last night, need to pick up a can of fuel today and try it out - hopefully the pick up pipe is'nt blocked up with POR15...

Cheers

The usual places, if that's any consolation.

Fuel tank repairs have got out of hand!

I knew there was a bit of grot in the boot and now seemed like the time to attack it. Fortunately this is the only grot on the car other than I think one of the flitch panels on one of the front inner wings.

And the main offenders

I'll put a wanted ad in case anyone can save me time with a boot floor cut for the first.

The second around the spring mount I have cut back and should be a straightforward repair from the inside.

All I was doing was trying to get the engine running right...

Cheers

That's a good start 'cause they usually aren't. A good few years ago I didn't buy a cheap 912 that I really should have. Still regret is as they're way out of my league now and probably always will be.

Not entirely sure as it has no id or bulkhead…
Probably 1971.
Purists look away but the plan is to drop it onto a Beetle floor pan that I already have. I’ll end up with not really a 911 but it should be a fun project! It was cheap!

Awesome, didn't know you had one. What year is it?

Yep,
Probably the rustiest 911 known to man!
It is at the very bottom of the project queue.
Cheers
