Arrived at work this morning, and parked up the SAAB in the works car park.

As I was walking across to go into work, what arrives at the car park entrance but *another* 96 V4!!!

A very nice blue "M" reg!

I told the lady driving it where mine was parked. If she's parked next to it, I'll try and get a pic at lunchtime!

I haven't seen another one on the road in years, and now one arrives at my place of work at the same time as me!

I think I need a reality check......!!!

Re door mirrors - Nick Utteridge (Bridport, Dorset) has some for sale at around £25 each - in good condition from what I saw of them at the National. I don't have his contact details but he advertises Saab bits on ebay and should be trackable via that. I spoke with John at Saab Sanctuary yesterday (bought some seals and little plastic cups for my mirrors) and understood that he hasn't got any in stock.

David (95 V4, 260-2 Saabo and a 96 2T, plus a modern Saab - enough for the time being!)

Well, I'm open to offers!

Dr Brian hasn't responded, and I'm about to depart towards the continent. I'm pretty busy until September, so if nobody has expressed an interest by then, I'll probably e-bay it!

But I'll put it up on the forum here first!

Pchristy - going back to your wing mirror, I had been looking at getting one for my car. I kept an eye on ebay for a while and a couple came up in the last 6 months I suppose. One (in my opinion not as good a condition as yours) went for £33, and another in probably as good a condition as yours went for only £13.

A car in a green house, I could have that as a garden feature!

Never had one but have a nice pennine frame made in Bradford with horizontal drops and really steep geometry earmarked for a build, it is a bit tricky as it still has the original and very distinctive paint scheme which is really horrible, but I cannot bring myself to paint over it!

I'll see if I can find a pic and email it to you. There's nothing like riding fixed, very addictive. I've owned about 100 (!) bicycles (I'm only 31) and the fixies and recumbents have always been my favourites when I did my daily (15m single trip) commute for a couple of years. I'm not really a speed addict, but these bikes make you one. Never owned a factory fix, always built bikes from the parts bin.

Slightly off topic - but would be good to see a pic of your bike, just converted an old peugeot frame to single-speed and love riding it to work!

Guess you're right, I've never actually driven a car in London. But please don't underestimate me when I'm on my fixed gear bike.

I've been in Istanbul, I can imagine traffic is alike in Ankara: 24h rush hour, the constant buzz of car horns and people shouting out of car windows. Driving in those parts must be quite frightening, or should I call it challenging? Taxi drivers in Turkey are madmen as well, they scare the hell out of you when you're in the back seat. I think I prefer walking with a stone in my shoe...

Yes I have actually! I was up there earlier this year, but not in the 96!

I think probably the worst place I have ever driven was Ankara, in Turkey! That was just something else!

And whilst I appreciate what you are saying about Amsterdam cyclists, unlike London couriers, they are unlikely to be able to out accelerate a 96!

Ah, but you are not driving in the rough and tumble of London traffic, where no-one takes any notice of lanes, or overtaking on the inside, and where dispatch riders are everywhere!!!
Never been to Aberdeen?

You're right about that, but would London be worse than Amsterdam with all it's cyclists and trams?

I should have thought of that! I was going to have a go myself, but my German is VERY rusty! Got quite close on most of it though (to my amazement!)

Hello My dear friends Swedish SAAB. My name is Michel and I am from Germany where I live on the border with Switzerland. Currently I restore my 1996 SAAB V4 Built in 1979. But I have everything on the year of 1968, then converted to long-nose. For me there is nothing that is more beautiful than a SAAB 96th Three years I am now working on it and have spent 2700 hours so that he now has no more rust. It makes a lot of joy, a restoration. Now, I have also painted it inside and out in midnight blue.
Here in Germany there are not that many of the SAAB 96 and older models have almost none. Last year I had a SAAB Oldi organizes meetings and there were added 14 SAAB. 95, 96 2-stroke, 96 V4, and a sonnet sonnet second A beautiful sight to see, all the old SAAB in a day and at the same location.
Many greetings from the Black Forest
SAAB 1996 from nutty Michel
