Have just given my new 96 its first real workout: a week long trip to deepest Cornwall touring around and seeing the sights. We stayed a a cottage near Sennen Cove, not far from Land's End and used the Saab every day and night.
No breakdowns and no real alarms although on the way down we got very close to overheating when stuck in a tailback for about half an hour. The needle edged into the red but we got going before disaster struck. For the rest of the first day the car would stall when approaching roundabouts and junctions and basically whenever the freewheel kicked in. Car was right as rain the next day after a cool down and has been fine since! May need to look at an electric fan and/or a new radiator. Anyway, 600 miles in the week and no problems, apart from assorted surfers drooling over the car!

Yes, it certainly did add to the holiday. We could have taken a 2010 VW Polo but where's the fun in that? Need to give the old thing a good wash and polish as a thankyou!

Nice part of the country. We too, have stayed near the cove, and walked to Land's End from there, on a regular basis for 'refreshments'.

Your lovely 96 seems to have added to the enjoyment of your holiday.

At least if the hydraulics go, you can still free-wheel! I once got all the way from Honiton to Torquay, when returning from London and the slave cylinder went! Its fine as long as you don't have to stop! Luckily, the only time I did have to stop, the car was facing downhill!

Great to hear the 95 is getting the tlc it deserves-I knew it would. I haven't done much to the 96 since I've bought it other than a mini service and a check over at the local spe*****t. He pronounced it in excellent all round condition and I think I've done pretty well with it. I'm intending to enjoy it while it's running well and maybe do a few jobs to it in the autumn. I think the radiator could do with a once over though so maybe a recore might be in order, also the clutch periodically seems to lose all feel and I'm wondering if the slave cylinder is on the way out -very similar things happened to my mini and this was the cause.

I don't want to hi-jack this thread so I have added a bit to your 95 report.

Nice one! That car looks really smart! Yes, they don't like being stuck in traffic! My red one stopped on the road for the first time in 3 years a week or so back, when it got seriously hot in traffic! It looks like it was just fuel vaporisation though, 'coz ten minutes with the bonnet up to let the hot air out, and she was as right as rain again!

Your old estate now has a single choke Weber fitted, which has livened it up a little bit, and I've got some new shocks for the front, though not fitted yet! I've been using it as a daily drive for the last few weeks whilst I check out what needs fixing, but she's running very nicely! I'm off to Italy to support my son at a competition at the end of August / beginning of September, so if John is willing, I might drop it down to him whilst we are away to have a look at the floor.

Lovely motor you've got there!

And a final one outside the cottage - nice place to go for a week but glad to be back home in the correct county!

A shot at Sennen Cove: The surfers seemed to like the Saab and I was constantly asked about it!
