http://www.saab-v4.co.uk/speedball/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1082

See above for the topic previously in idle saab chat.

Spent some time rubbing down the 4.5 steels over the last few days. Tried spraying one with a 10+yr old can of Ford Windsor Grey. Bit lighter than the BL Hurricane Grey I used on the heater housing. The windsor grey is probably a better shade for the heater housing though the hurricane is good match for bumper irons.
Below the comparison between the Windsor grey and the original wheel finish which has a hint of silver in it. Have to see if I can get some made up as I have 10 wheels to do.
I have also installed the carpets and under-dash padding which gives an air of comfort. Changes since last pictured is the addition of cassette radio and the rev. counter has been moved off the L-bracket clipped to the column to a copy of the tube bracket secured at the hole on the other side of the column stand. This moved the tacho slightly higher up. It does obscure the speedo above 60mph and the ignition/alternator lamp.

Script editing again. Not much progress yet, sorting out tools, parts and fettling small components.
Wings will come off soon so the car can stand on axle stands in the garage over winter for repairing the rot.

Been editing script, not much progress in the year, other than stripping out the interior. so I can get to the front floor. Hoping to do more as weather improves.

Thank you, Woody.

All the best.

Richard.

The tyres are 165/82/15 Goodyear Ultragrips M & S that I bought off ebay 10 years ago. Ignore the Khumo name on the tyre stand. The wheels are 4.5J steels.

Hello Woody,

What spec are the tyres you have on the car, above ??

Thanks

Richard.

I've built a garage with a sedum roof on an EPDM rubber membrane, excellent stuff!

Yes I am impressed with the rubber membrane, way better than felt. Not had any experience or feedback on fibreglass.
I have been contemplating painting the floor as just makes the garage look a lot better. Have been moving stuff off the floor
and putting it into the roof space.
The Jeep is a July 1944 Ford GPW, I have yet to find out which plant is was assembled at. Have been custodian of it since 1978.
A complete nut and bolt restoration over two years. It is due some restoration to the body now and a mechanical service. Saab comes first.

Hi Woody,
Roof looks good, I am interested in the rubber membrane as our new house has a flat roof. Most of the neighbours have either used felt or fibreglass.
Can you tell us more about the jeep? I thought I had seen it in a background shot before.
If you get the chance I would recommend painting the garage floor. I find the two part epoxy paint by far the best. You can paint in two halves and move stuff around accordingly.
Cheers

After.

Are the last 2 pictures before or after?
WoodyPosted - 07 Mar 2022 : 21:50:47
Well a year has passed, Covid isolation, innoculations, facemask covering, two new grandchildren's arrival so been busy but not necessarily on the vehicles. The garage roof continued to leak, everything was covered over, so it was not a pleasant environment to try to do anything productive. I then decided enough was enough and got a quote.
So last month I had to empty the garage and put the vehicles on the lawn to make way for a skip, as the garage roof was to be renewed.
The new roof is rubber membrane on top of new boarding. Nice to be back in a water tight workplace. However there is a lot of cleaning up to do. Pics below show progress of cleaning up, floor cleared and swept but the back benches were still covered in debris. The only way to do this was to place everything onto or around a temporary table and the bench was cleared for cleaning. Now all the stuff needs sorting. Do I need it or do I throw it. The lack of plasterboard ceiling has enabled storage on battens so items don't clutter the floor.
Also now an opportunity to review all the spares tucked away in boxes and plastic tubs, to re-sort into manual chapters so engine, body, brakes, transmission etc. Granted I can't put transmissions into plastic tubs but that is the gist of it.
Had a week's break in the Canaries to catch some rays so feel restored to get stuck in and then onto the Troll.

Like Gareth I found inspiration form your project and had noticed you absence.
Glad to hear you are on the mend.
I'm not far away in Burton on Trent so maybe we could meet up sometime, when this awful Covid 19 is under control.
Cheers

The photo dates from 2014 at the SEC meet at Holmfirth. Car hasn't been run for at least two years. Battery died.
It is sitting on wood ammo boxes at rear and axle stands at the front awaiting floor and front apron repairs.
My cancer treatment which has been effective over the two years, had side effects which discouraged me working outside. The treatments have finished now and I have retired so I am planning on getting stuck in when I can get a dry spell.

Provocative question. When did you last run the car at least around the block Woody? A quick rev up in the garage doesn't count.
Some sort of update would probably be entertaining I think.
