i'm just putting together my '68 and would really appreciate some help:

the felt/metal seal that sits on the inside at the base of the window opening in the door, the one which has a 45 degree upturn at its forward end: how is this angled portion anchored in place, is there some special clip, as the flange which it sits against has a curled edge

also, the rubber seal that sits on the outside of the window, also with a 45 degree upturn, is that seal just glued in place?

also, tried to fit the parcel shelf: the shelf i have is a black-faced fibre board with 5 holes each side: there are 5 small ledges welded to the body and i have 3 special shaped clips to locate presumable over the central 3 ledges, but when i offer it in place, the forward edge of the shelf barely overlaps the edge of the angle behind the seat: am i missing something?, and should the shelf be trimmed or covered?

many thanks for any assisstance.....Adrian

fitted Sealmaster Hurricane seals to cill, similar to original c-channel, makes a really good lower door seal, with a stong angled lip seal but a bit fiddly to fit, Typhoon would have been better, as its bigger and nearer to original size, but limited choice of seal inserts

i know it'll be liable to damage more so than if it was on the door, but....

No problem, it's not going anywhere if you change your mind.

thanks Lee, but if the seals are unobtainable, i might just as well use the Hurricane

If you want to fit a c channel to your other door, I found one at the weekend, its new but needs cleaning up and attaching, which might be too much for you, at this point in the restoration but it's available if you want it. Pm me if interested. (In Wimbledon)

Baines of Tunbridge Wells are best for rubber mouldings, but the Sealmaster Hurricane/SF is closest to the original type

why not try some similar rubber profile from www.vintagecarparts.co.uk

another struggle, but got window in, altho had to release latch remote mechanism, but seems to be ok

the rubber strips along the bottom inside of the door are hopeless....the drivers side, which has the c-channel is retained better, unlike the passenger side with no c-channnel which bows out in between the fixing studs....but, they are too old and inflexible, so i've still got big gaps at bottom of door......i assume these strips aren't available?

if not, i might fit Sealmaster SF seals to cill

Ah hah !

My car is a 1968 LHD so the mats may be the same. All tucked up in the garage at the moment but I will check later.

Interested in the LHD mats if you are selling John.

Cheers

They are for an early 99 (the carpet covers shown are for a LHD car)..i have a set for the early V4 in unused condition...i tried them in the bullnose but the pedals fouled the top of the drivers side..i nearly cut them top fit but changed my mind.

Once the clips are slid on the parcel shelf they are kept there by the rubber edging.

thanks very much for the comments....i was wondering what those grey plastic trim pieces (over parcel shelf edges) were for! just fitted parcel shelf and decided to leave it in matt black as there was no sign of any trim previously fitted

so, no clip to hold the 3 inch 45 degree angled portion of the felt/metal seal, then?...i'll give it a go and see what happens

i just can't believe the hours i've spent on this car, everything is so fiddly

Saab 900 boot seal to do next on the 96

That was a genuine dealer optional extra, I have a picture in the "extras" brochure but I have never seen one "in the flesh"..a rare item!

Oh no,

I've cut holes for my speakers just like Paul.
