I am slowly reassembling a 1700 engine at the moment. I noted a marking on the cam shaft that says H35 and then 72. Its stamped on the actual shaft and not on the end plate. The end plate stamp says 39N.
Does the 72 imply a 7.2 (fast road cam?) or is that just wishful thinking?

Cheers
Paul

Hi Derek
Its hard for me to compare exactly but I'd say you are right.
I have included another photo that shows a close up of the lobe base circle. Its about 1.4 mm proud of the shaft.

As you can see from Woody's picture, the 3 to the left all have their base circles ground right back to give the extra lift. The right hand one, the standard cam, has the base circle proud of the shaft by quite a bit. If yours is standard it would be the same.

My standard cam is back in its engine and cannot access my spare engine to see what that one is marked. I am inclined to take the 72 on your cam as a casting date. see images below for the markings of SS&R 7.2 and 7.6 camshafts. Left to right - 7.6, 7.2, SAH stage 3 road/rally,standard:-
