Does anyone know who makes the motor that drives the headlamp wash system of the later SAABS 96s? I've had mine out, can't see any manufacturers name on it. It works, but the self park system doesn't work. It's a wee cam that moves to make and break contacts, to achieve the self park, but the contacts are all corroded to hell, and basically falling apart. Best option find a new one, (probably unlikely), 2nd option, get it re-furbished. Can anyone recommend an auto electrical specialist who could refurbish the motor?

andydeans3 | Posted - 13 Oct 2014 : 05:41:47 Most of the older Folksvagens were 6 volt electrics it seems.... At least all the appropriate washer motors I've seen in various places, said to be for the classic Vws, are 6 volt.

Thanks mate. Chap at Jamsaab said he had a second hand one, waiting to see what sort of condition it's in.
Also, I'm going to the NEC in November, so will take the old motor with me, you know the amazing stuff you can find at the auto-jumble there!
Now that I know that this headlamp motor was extensively used on various older Volkswagens, I've sent a couple of E mails to a couple of VW classic parts people.
I'm away at work now, and won't make the November breakfast meet, because I'll be in Brum!.

PDickens | Posted - 04 Oct 2014 : 11:12:31 Hi Andy - it was on ebay so I bought it on spec not long after I got the car. Fitted it after the installed motor gave up the ghost. I will have a look in my spares box in the garage to see if I've still got the old one in case you want to cannibalise it for the contacts. |

Paul. Where did you get the new motor Paul?

PDickens | Posted - 03 Oct 2014 : 08:19:11 Hi Andy
I put a complete new motor on mine as the original one had burnt out - I'll see if I can find the old one as it may have the contact and it might be of use. |

Wiper motor is made by SWF, also used in VWs: http://saabjournal.blogspot.nl/2013/11/volkswagen-windshield-wiper-motor.html
So this is what you need:
Wire colours from top down; - brown - yellow - red - black
Same was used in the 99, maybe you can find a scrapped one.

Don't know who the OEM was for these motors (Bosch/Lucas ?), but heard good reports on repairs by this company when I lived down South - see http://www.robsonandfrancisrewinds.co.uk/ No harm in giving them a call ?
A quick Google on 'wiper motor' also came up with: http://www.vintagecarparts.co.uk/products/ca292-wiper-motor-self-park-12-volt
Good luck ! Derek
