Hello,
I want to present myself and the car I bought last summer. It came from finland to south Spain running along 5.000km and arrived a bit tired but I think that with a lot of love can survive another 30 years.(at least)

The previous owner came with another friends in cars very cheap and in bad conditions making the "mediterranean scrapyard run" just to leave them in a demolition house in Spain, take two week holidays and come back to finland by plane.

The car is a '79 v4 saab 96 GL, painted in darker green than the acacia metallic original. My idea is to restore it keeping as much original as I can but with the intention of use it frecuently. At this moment I'm arranging the legal documents (a lot) to obtain the spanish plates.
Mechanically is good but it suffered a bit the late kms of the trevel as the exhaust valves wasn't well adjusted.(no gap on 3 valves)

Thanks Melle, it is important to cover the hub or it seems obvious something is missing. This job is pretty simple comparing with other restorations seen on the forum.

I have the cad files for free sharing in case of someone is interesting on them, it is my little contribution to all of the information I get from the forum.

After a long time I've been able to finish the wheel cap made on 3D printing. It is far from perfect but helped to understand many things about 3D printing.
It is printed in three parts for saving time and then glued together.

The fitting to the wheel is good but the surface in contact is so small that is necessary to use some glue.

Another problem solved.

What I see is if the mechanical pump fails, is better to unplug the electrical and plug directly to the carburator bypassing the mechanical.

Length 130mm which is correct. Yellowed end is due to the hardening process and should be against the cam. You show that so that's fine too.

The pump shaft will have a polished side which is against the camshaft. The end with circular mark is caused by the pump plunger. The movement in the pump when the bolts are loosened is correct. There should not be any movement when bolts are tightened.

This is how it comes out of the block:

This is the cam end:

This is the pump end (note the wear mark):

The rod was placed correctly. Bottom part was in.

This is the play of the fuel pump when unscrewed (plenty i think):

Mechanical fuel pump completely dismantled and shows one rubber broken and was out of place blocking the out line.

I will order a new one but I will keep a new low pressure chineese electrical under the back seat for feeding the carb before start when the car has been sitting a long time.
I will add also another fuel filter after the tank as suggested.

Now seems to work again but I will find an spare of the modern type in case of.

In fact I have problems with the wiring. I notice high heat on one contact in the fuse box and sometimes there is smoke on the light stalk. I don'tknow if this is related with the mulfunctioning of the rele, I have to check more.

I have cleaned the contacts but maybe not good enough.
Interesting that product, and article. (I had bought the dielectric grease thinking it was the appropiate stuff)

Impossible to find that product in europe at a reasonable price, they all come from US.

The low beam light dissapeared, only worked high beam when pressed the stalk. After opening the main rele I saw there is a plastic lever that was stucked, it has to move freely, after soaking with contact cleaner and thin oil and wiggling for a long time it started to move more or less freely. Beside the plastic lever there is a metalic lever that probably gets rusted blocking the movement.

I'm useless to electrics but discovered that the first coil is activated with the switch to ON. and then, the stalk activates the second coil that selects high or low beam.

Maybe is not too difficult to connect two diffent standard rele replacing the original double rele.

This is how it works:

Yeah Richard, good shop, thanks interesting staff but buying from UK is a kind of gambling nowadays.

I'm curious how the new H4 led will fit on our old headlamps. Surely the ammount of light gained will be important.

I buy small leds since a lot of time, really cheap on chinesse shops or alliexpress, apparently low quality but they last for years, some of them are also dimmeable and come on different colors but I haven't found warm white yet.
