Further to recent postings, which I appreciated.
Both the Haynes and Saab manual refer to backing off the screws which to me means loosening.I may be being either thick or over cautious but do the hinge screws have to be removed completely thus allowing the glass complete with hinged retainer channel do be withdrawn? I am afraid of ending up with parts removed that are impossible to re-assemble. Always better to ask a daft question than regret it.
Hope this is clear - any help appreciated.

That isn't very clear, but yes, remove the screws and then the whole thing glass/retainer channel comes out as one.
