Old ones rusting internally seems to be an ongoing problem. I wondered why a fuel tank from a kit car could not be used. E.g.

More on this site, larger ones have baffles and come in at £250 ish!

Some maybe smaller than a 96 one and we would need a baffle perhaps in ours but I may look into this further when I have more time. I will take some measurements today and make some enquiries. I will also wait to see what Steve (Malbrads) come up with

RhysN.
I would certainly ask your alloy welder what it would cost to build an alloy tank.
I know Alistair Philpott was getting stainless tanks priced, and quite a few of us said we were interested, but if I remember correctly the price was somewhere around 600 quid....Way toooo much.

I met with a superb alloy welder a week or few back who makes alloy tanks, for among others Aston Martin, TVR racers... I mentioned the Saab project which seems to have stalled. Shall I progress questions to him?

they're on the wrong side of the pond, but Mark Ashcraft offers new stainless steel tanks for 96's. http://markashcraft.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Catalog-web.pdf

No I have not, my tank so far has been ok, no idea about the red one

I have left my tank full for two years now not on purpose, I had just filled it before the clutch or something started clattering and although it will probably be bunging up the fuel pipes it hopefully should be stopping air getting to the tank inners and rotting it.

I bet they could make one specific to size. Apologies if they do, I had a very brief look at the link.
Have you tried the POR kit/stuff ? I did the tank on my Splitty a fair few years ago and all still appears well.
