Hello everyone,

Having searched for the right car for many years, I finally found one. Well... rather, it found me in a way! A conversation with a fellow enthusiast led to me buying his scruffy (but well preserved) car and bringing it home. It has taken a while to raise funds to do the restoration but it's now well underway.

The car features in the current issue of Practical Classics magazine (in all good newsagents now... etc.), in which I introduce the car and tell the story of why it is a very important car for me personally. My father owned an early E-plate V4 and it's the earliest memory I have of being in a car! Regardless of working for the magazine, this is a car I have wanted my whole life. Okay, so it's not the same year as his vehicle but it's a 96 and for that reason, I can't tell you how excited I am to finally own one. It will be my everyday transport where I live in Oundle, Northamptonshire.

Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi. I would also like to say how friendly I have found the Saab community so far. Both Saab Owners Club and Saab Enthusiasts have been really welcoming and helpful. I'm still looking for many parts (best place to buy a windscreen rubber for instance!) and will no doubt be seeking some advice as time goes by.

Kind regards,

James

Ah thanks John, that would explain the confusion, Mark must have transferred the original reg and why it comes up as a FIAT!

It's on a (modern) 500

It's a bit (we'll, rather a lot ) of a pain attaching pics to forum posts.
You first need to upload to a host site, I use photobucket.com Uploading to bucket is straight forward. Find and select 'upload' then-drag n drop for your personal photo file. Once you have a 'library' click on the picture you want - it will go to a view of the single photo. on the r/h side there is a box with 4 links titled 'share this photo' copy and paste the 'direct' link over to your post. Once pasted place img with brackets as per below before and after the copied link. It should look something like this - I've misspelt /img so that it shows the link and not the photo.

Press preview and job done - hopefully

Uploading to FB is so much easier . Looking forward to seeing the pictures

Nope - still no option available to attach pictures. Never heard of a host link so that's got me a bit baffled I'm afraid. I'll pop the pics on the Facebook page instead. Hope some of you can see them! :)

Would love to see pics of this, are you using photobucket, you have to make the IMG into lower case img if that is any help!

How are you doing it so a mod can help? Is your registration DOT 722K or DOT 724k as mY newly purchased project is DOT 723K and was told by Mark that the registrations were consequetive!

James

I couldn't believe it when my PC dropped through the door recently, and there was an article about a 96!!
It's such a rare and unusual car, they don't figure much in the Classic press. Made my day.

Welcome to the slightly unusual world of the SAAB 96!

Thanks for your kind words, everyone. Really looking forward to getting the car back on the road and to a few events this year. And of course meeting you I hope! Really glad you like the magazine article. I hope it reflects how much the car means to me. :)

Kind regards,
James
