T O P I C R E V I E W | shoestring | Posted - 02 Oct 2017 : 09:05:53 Hi All, Just a quick question, there are a pair of cylinder heads on e-bay for a 1967 Saab 96, are they the same as my 1972 heads please ?
Thanks, Barry | 4 L A T E S T R E P L I E S (Newest First) | shoestring | Posted - 04 Oct 2017 : 09:59:16 Thanks Mel, I did notice the sunken valve seats but I intended to refurbish and get hardened valve seats fitted. I will keep a lookout for more heads, not required urgently, Cheers. Barry | melle | Posted - 02 Oct 2017 : 19:06:43 '67 heads are for open deck engines; not all water passages line up on closed deck blocks (like you have). That can be fixed if you can weld cast iron: http://www.saab-v4.co.uk/speedball/topic.asp?topic_id=3335 (Shame all the pics are gone.)
I wouldn't buy the ones on eBay anyway for that sort of money, unless I badly needed open deck heads. If you intend to use them as direct replacements, look at how far the valves are recessed into the heads and how crusty some of the inlets look around the edges. They're well worn by the looks of it.
