Thanks for the welcome.

I have acquired a part restored 1972 blue 96V4 a couple of weeks ago from a gentleman from Nr Sleaford . Have had little time to have a look at the car and all the bits that came with it so far. Will try and upload some pictures asap.

This is my first 96v4, so going to be a bit of a steep learning curve.

cheers, Paul

Hi Hilary ,
Nice to hear from another north easterner or is it a Cumbrian?
If your 96 is a daily user Certainly you will get plenty of opportunity to hone your deep snow driving skills!
I’m in Whickham and there are a few other 96s around Newcastle, Stocksfield furthest west one .
Sorry I cannot help with your parts wish list but if I can help with any thing else just let me know .
Kind Regards
JOHN

Hi all, I agree with Redsaabs - this is a great resource for those little problems. I adjusted my gear selection using very clear information from here - and it worked!
I'm doing the cosmetic things on my Saab 96 (1973) at the moment as I'm not sure I can cope with the rest yet! I'm in Alston - so close to Newcastle and will hopefully meet up with some northern Saabers soon.
ps. mine's a daily driver around here

It's not true l have not been on here..........a Google search usually ends up with me reading a project thread on here........which have been a great help and inspiration to a newcomer like myself and a great way to spend a few hours at a time...........though a bit scary in places (balance shaft gears & bearings at the moment) .

A big thank you to you all.

It's been a while since my first post and this is my first visit since to the site.............thank you for the welcome.

I have been busy trying to get my head around the 96 and the many boxes of spares ,engine (s), panels etc etc etc etc that came with the part completed project car. I think it's fair to say that l have now managed to quirrel most of the bits away .......although l did have to let a C900 go to make a bit of space.

I think l must have had the car about 3 months now and l can honestly say that l have enjoyed every single moment ........having a 96 has given me a feeling l have never experienced with a car before and l,m therefore naturally delighted to have finally taken the plunge to get a proper old Saab .

The main reason for my delay in posting is the frustration of not being able to post photographs......hopefully my son will be able to help me shortly.

I have so far had a couple of special visitors to see the project.......wonky door made the long trip up from Lincoln a couple of weeks ago.......and when Dave left l had a far better understanding of what some of the bits were for and better equipped to move the project forward thanks to his guidance and encouragement.......last week l had a visit from John Craig in his red 96. Again Johns visit was very helpful and it's good to have a 96 close by that l can use as the box lid for this big puzzle .

I have started with the engine(s) , and am hoping to have one ready for fitting in the next couple of months .

I live in Chester-le-Street and look forward to welcoming others who may like to make a visit.

Cheers, Paul

Hi Christian,
Paul and I are around Newcastle upon Tyne .
I know of two other 96s Anniversary models just north of me ,one not always road going and another 96 in mid Northumberland .
There used to be a nice Anniversary in Sunderland that I think went to Scarborough and there are a few Sorn projects that have not seen the light of day for some time close by .
Very rarely have I seen any others driving around here but maybe one other in Sunderland.

A few 3? in Teesside /Darlington and of course quite a few inland of you in North Yorks
Paul is a great organiser in the U.K. SAAB's forum ,not sure if he has anything planned for the 99 900 9000 and all welcome models, coming up for the North east .
I'm sure we will meet ,you were not able to attend John Wyatts Lothian do last year I did messager you about a convoy!!
All the best

Hi JohnC. I really wanted to go to John's meet last year but unfortunately life gets in the way of classic cars! I went to college in South Shields and my wife is from Jarrow so we are often up that way- I occasionally work from North Shields too. I used to see an immaculate orchid white 96 in Sunderland driven by a lady but never had chance to talk to her. I considered the Angel of the North meet this year but couldn't make that either unfortunately, hopefully I will have more time soon!
