Was in Paisley last night, for the UK start of the Monte Carlo Classique.
No fewer than 4 of 96s, three of them going all the way to Monte Carlo, and one just doing the local run to Dumfries.
A lot of other interesting cars around as well.
Maybe next year, I'll make the run.......dream on....
Some photos below.

The last one of the Forth Bridge was taken on the way home, showing The Old Lady of the Forth in all her glory, what an awesome structure!!

Thanks for the update, glad to hear it wasn't the engine but sorry for Donald that he crashed out so close to the end. However he picked a famous place to go out so it will be remembered!!
Look forward to seeing him out on some stage events later in the year - there are quite a few Saabs appearing now which is good to see.

Sorry for delay, night shift over the weekend slows everything down! Donald had a meeting with the Armco on the Col de turini, trying hard and just went wide, steering and wheels knackered I think, so sadly the car is coming home by transporter. Donald enjoyed the experience, but I think is keen to get back to doing some stage rallying rather than regularities, so with any luck we will see him out on the stages in the 96, once it's been given a bit of TLC.

Any news Gavin on what finally stopped Donald’s 96?
GeoffCPosted - 07 Feb 2018 : 09:20:45
Sadly Donald went out on the last but one regularity zone - must be gutted but a great effort for getting as far as he did - hope he didn't spend too much on oil and spark plugs!!

If that's the red 96, I understand he has "re-modelled " a front corner and bent a chassis leg. Haven't heard from Donald today, but results seem to show him still going.

Looks like Iain McDonalds 96 (XBY) is out unfortunately with "mechanical" problems. Donald's blue and white one still going after regularity zone 11 still waiting for the full set of results for zone 12.

Thanks for the updates Gavin - keep us posted and I hope he makes it to the finish!

Spoke to Donald this morning, still going and well into the selectives of the rally proper. The car is still burning oil at a good rate and they've done a clutch adjustment today which should cure a bit of judder. Donald is thinking of dropping some stages now to preserve the car, but he can do this with up to 50% dropped and still achieve a finish, although he will obviously drop down the standings. They both seem to be enjoying the event.
Geoff, could be time for you to build "son of pup"#128516;

Was just thinking the same thing myself Gavin! Now why did I sell PUP!!!

Not in a bad position at all! It really is an amazing field, there must be every classic rally car you could think of, and many you have never even considered. Might have to put this on the bucket list too!

Gavin/Geoff
I could have given him a couple of spare heads in Paisley, to take with him!! I happened to have them in the car, because I'd been to a machine shop in the afternoon to see about getting hardened seats fitted!!!!

There is a section where you just simply make the run to Monte, (Monte Classique I think) but I think it's reserved for pre 1969 cars, so my 96 is far too young for that!.

Having been to Sweden, Austria Germany and back with the car, the actual distance doesn't faze me at all.

Aye Andy,

I'll just have to get my 1968 V4 on the road then !

Thanks for the update Gavin I was wondering how he was doing. As long has he has plenty of oil and all those spare plugs he should be ok.
I didn't run mine with oil seals on the stems so unless the guides are really worn it shouldn't be using that much. Hopefully it will last the distance!
