Redsaabs | Posted - 04 Mar 2018 : 13:49:34 Thanks chaps......l have a copy of the spreadsheet which slightly confused me because it says you need 8 bolts ilrc and it made me think it may be referring to the size of the bell housing bolts........for which there are not any sizes shown. But please don't get me wrong ....it's a great spreadsheet.......cheers Paul

Zagato | Posted - 04 Mar 2018 : 13:46:43 Hi Melle, yes the 3/8th that did not fix is a UNF from my spares. The one that came from the geabox had UNC 88 BFO on it which a 9/16 spanner fits. Unless I have mixed up the latter it should be original as the gearbox has never been out and it fits fine! Presume that is 3/8th UNC! Can we talk about polishing or something cos I,m lost LOL!

melle | Posted - 04 Mar 2018 : 13:25:02 It's 3/8" UNC bolt, not sure of the length and I don't have access to the spreadsheet at the moment.
Zagato, are you sure what you had in your hand was not an M10 bolt, which is quite close to 3/8" UNC? 88 = 8.8 tensile strength. This type of indication is normally found on ISO metric fasteners, on SAE stuff tensile strength grade is usually indicated as a certain number of lines on the bolt head (three for grade 5 and six for grade 8 iirc).

Zagato | Posted - 04 Mar 2018 : 11:49:43 I have the bolt in my hand, it is roughly 44mm long and a 9/16 spanner fits it. I have tried a 3/8th bolt but the thread is to close together to screw in! Maybe that's because it is UNF, edit it was UNF for a Land Rover rebuild not UNC. Sorry not very up on bolt sizes. On the head of the bolt it says UNC 88 BUFO!

Redsaabs | Posted - 03 Mar 2018 : 21:16:03 Hi Steve,
That's great.........l was hoping it was 3/8............l had tried 5/16............will need to get my hands on a 3/8 UNC
Many thanks, Paul

stevebod | Posted - 03 Mar 2018 : 20:45:50 Hi Paul, I can help a little bit. If it's the thread you need it appears to be 3/8" UNC. Not sure what length the bolt is though. I bet someone else will be along shortly that knows better than me. Steve. |
