JMat99 | Posted - 25 Aug 2016 : 16:22:28 The one I found in my recently acquired project is incomplete so difficult to work out its purpose. Could it be a form of adjustable support to the seat? Any advice appreciated before I repair it. |

JMat99 | Posted - 27 Aug 2016 : 09:43:49 Hi John. Many thanks for such a comprehensive reply. My previous 96's were owned new in 1970 & 1973 and I had no recollection of this device. My understanding of it was not helped because the one in my project had partly disintegrated. Thanks again to you and Robert for his earlier answer. I am a devotee of the 96 but new to restoration so cannot believe how much help is available via this excellent site. John |
Woody | Posted - 26 Aug 2016 : 20:39:30 The item pictured was used up to 1972 models , where you rotate the device to raise or lower the back seat base . During '72 they changed this device for a fixed item which kept the back seat at a preset height.

JMat99 | Posted - 25 Aug 2016 : 21:22:20 Thanks Robert for your swift and helpful advice. Very encouraging as I embark on my first restoration. I last had a 96 v4 in 1970 and it was brand new. John |

Follow this link and you will see the wooden rear seat support I think you are describing. This is Matt Stimpson's superb 96
