Agree with that - one of the 3 speeds (which is smaller and lighter than a 4 speed) is right at the limit of my lifting capability.
We'll see if I get one in next week - depends what other goodies I buy

Woody | Posted - 15 Jul 2013 : 19:41:06 Though the boot is big enough to take a V4 gearbox, lifting it in and out is the problem if on your own. For that reason alone, I removed the front passenger seat and placed the box on the ramp in between the seat runners and tied it down. Damn Health & Safety gets everywhere!! |
Derek | Posted - 15 Jul 2013 : 10:54:36 With rear seat down you might be surprised how much you can get in there! Plenty of room for more here and a few things were added. There's a gearbox in there but it's small enough to be insignificant. Several box's of spares, a rear screen, a box of shoes(!), a large box of Scalextric, and last but not least a complete body rotisserie in the box across the back end. I think I put the rears up to 35 psi for the trip to Southampton. Ride was the best I'd known and the extra weight wasn't noticeable! I made up a shaped piece of MDF to cover the floor.

pchristy | Posted - 15 Jul 2013 : 09:08:16 Yes it will! I took mine up to Chris Partington in the boot of the 96.
However, some advice: I put some wood on the floor to spread the load - I don't think the standard plywood floor would be strong enough given the number of bumps and protrusions on the box, and the poor state of our roads!
Also, I put a large piece of foam rubber over the box, so that if it shifted, it wouldn't damage the boot lid!
Probably worth pumping up the rear tyres a bit as well, if you are carrying it any distance!
You won't have much room for anything else in there!

Derek | Posted - 14 Jul 2013 : 11:59:26 Add a sacrificial sheet of ply to the boot floor to slide it on, then wedge it well! |
