My fuel gauge is not accurate - reading empty and red warning light on when the tank is approx 1/2 full according to the capacity in the workshop manual. The gauge also flickers when in level is reading below 1/4
I have swapped the sender and dial

Is there a voltage regulator or somthing missing? 2 duff senders?

Any help appreciated

Hi John,
Never had problems, at least not yet with senders. Does the sender read correctly when full? Has the arm got bent at all? The saab float is plastic rather than an air sealed float so I wonder if it has become porous with age. The manual gives little insight so no tests are suggested.

Sender not earthed properly? Sealing gasket acting like an insulator? Might need a seperate wire to earth.

I've got a similar problem. When driving the gauge flicks rapidly from correct to full. Both the gauge and tank unit are ok, so it must be the wiring. What route does the loom take from the tank to the gauge? Ian

Check the fuse that supplies power to the dash instruments. This can cause the fuel gauge to read wrongly.
