| Was in Paisley last night, for the UK start of the Monte Carlo Classique. No fewer than 4 of 96s, three of them going all the way to Monte Carlo, and one just doing the local run to Dumfries. A lot of other interesting cars around as well. Maybe next year, I'll make the run.......dream on.... Some photos below.
The last one of the Forth Bridge was taken on the way home, showing The Old Lady of the Forth in all her glory, what an awesome structure!!

| Great pic Andy
Caught up with the cars at Banbury - great atmosphere and good to see 3 Saabs out.
Helped the blue and white one with a misfire problem so hopefully it will make it to Monte Carlo!

The blue SAAB was having problems in Paisley, before it left. I do hope they make it!

| Wonderful pictures guys,
Thanks for posting.
You certainly get " Oot 'n Aboot" Andy.
No reason why you wouldn't make it to Monte Carlo
Cheers, James ( Stig)

No.3 cylinder was oiling it's plug. Might be a bit of leakage through the rings but he now has a good supply of spark plugs and it was running fine when it left Banbury. There was no sign of excessive crank case pressure so I don't think it's that bad so hopefully it will be OK now. Fingers crossed | |

I'd love to make the run, and I did think about it for this year.
It seems to me that all the cars that were making the run to Monte Carlo, (as oppose to just running down to Dumfries),and doing all those special trials sections, are fitted out with all the rally paraphanalia like roll bars, and all those special chronometers, 4 point seat belts ete etc etc. Obviously I don't have all that guff in my car. Those cars were in a special paddock Paisley, the cars that were only running to Dumfries, were in a different paddock. It was therefore easy to see the difference between the cars.
There is a section where you just simply make the run to Monte, (Monte Classique I think) but I think it's reserved for pre 1969 cars, so my 96 is far too young for that!.
Having been to Sweden, Austria Germany and back with the car, the actual distance doesn't faze me at all.

| Spoke to Donald (owner of the blue and white 96) today, they've made it to France, but the car is burning a lot of oil. Sounds like valve stem seals are away on no 3 cylinder. He's going to try a thicker oil, just a case of keeping going though, think finding stem seals in France, and getting them fitted without going OTL might be a big ask.

| Thanks for the update Gavin I was wondering how he was doing. As long has he has plenty of oil and all those spare plugs he should be ok. I didn't run mine with oil seals on the stems so unless the guides are really worn it shouldn't be using that much. Hopefully it will last the distance! | |

| Gavin/Geoff I could have given him a couple of spare heads in Paisley, to take with him!! I happened to have them in the car, because I'd been to a machine shop in the afternoon to see about getting hardened seats fitted!!!!

| Not in a bad position at all! It really is an amazing field, there must be every classic rally car you could think of, and many you have never even considered. Might have to put this on the bucket list too!

| Spoke to Donald this morning, still going and well into the selectives of the rally proper. The car is still burning oil at a good rate and they've done a clutch adjustment today which should cure a bit of judder. Donald is thinking of dropping some stages now to preserve the car, but he can do this with up to 50% dropped and still achieve a finish, although he will obviously drop down the standings. They both seem to be enjoying the event. Geoff, could be time for you to build "son of pup"#128516;
