What sort/type of oil should be used in a 96 engine???,I am totally confused by all the numbers that are being quoted. I think(?) I put Castrol GTX 15/40 in it last time but have been told this is part synthetic.
This was discussed a few months back (under what type of oil do you use - last post 24th May) I also have semi synthetic in mine. Was told it should be alright.
"Back in the day" we used to run 20-50, but that was before the modern 10-40 and 15-40 became available. The SAAB handbook that came with my car recommends 10-40, as does the original workshop manual I have. The Haynes manual simply says "Castrol GTX"!
Like you, I've been running 15-40, but since the car has no problems with oil pressure when cold, I might switch to 10-40 at the next service. 15-40 seems to be recommended primarily for older or high mileage engines.
I also add a dash of Molyslip, based on experience gained back in my karting days!
