Are the valve guides V6 and where did you get them from? Burtons??
Recommend cap screws instead of studs for the exhaust.

Hi,
I believe so with the guides and not sure as Peter the engine builder sourced them but I will ask him next time I see him. I would guess Burtons.
Cheers

In advance of the rebuilt engine going in I wanted to get everything set up so that I know the ignition and carb are working well and the engine will fire right up with minimal faff.
Peter advised that the 28/36 was not going to be enough and there would be a risk of running lean. Managed to pick up two 38 DGAS carbs locally on FB and have rebuilt one. Fitted today for a successful test. The only issue I had was that I had to tap a new thread and fit a threaded inlet barb and there was a little fuel leak there which was cured with a copper washer but I will keep an eye on it.
The carb is jetted for a 2.0L Pinto so that is probably a good starting point for the new engine but thoughts welcome.
I also need to sort the throttle linkage as not quite getting full opening but that will be easy enough when the new engine goes in.

Thanks to Melle for the spot on the cheap ebay manual choke kit - works a treat!

Cheers

Great to hear you got it working. Dig you manage to modify the vacuum plate? Things look a bit tight around the choke, I have a set of the later type rocker covers with the take-off hose in the filler cap if required.

Hi Melle,
Yes, very tight around choke and was planning on modifying a rocker cover to move the breather. Your solution sounds better! Could you post a pic of the later rocker cover?
Running on the adapter modified for the 28/36 for now but will modify the spare to suit.
Really leaning towards throwing the new engine in and getting some miles on it as worried about it sitting on the bench not moving.
Cheers

The hose between the air filter and the rocker cover runs via the filler cap.

Interesting to see the position of the distributor on these 2 engines. Both different and mine had the vac pot flange parallel to the crank so different again. What is correct? I rather think that mine is/was.

It doesn't make any difference as long as the timing is set properly.

Hi Melle,
Yes, that would be neat solution and yes if I could grab a set of late rocker covers that would be great. Not urgent as for now I can just block the vent in the existing rocker cover and source a filler cap with a vent. Is the LH rocker cover the same on the later cars? In your pic is that a RH cover fitted on the LH side?
By the way, your engine bay is looking nice. I know you mentioned in your thread you want to tidy up the wiring but it puts mine to shame!
Cheers

That won't work, your filler cap fits over the stub on the cover, the later ones with a hose take-off and oil trap (standard Ford part, not exclusive to V4) fit into the hole and are a different diameter. Nothing that can't be fixed with a bit of creativity though.

Yes, see pic below.

Yes, but modified. I've added the hose take-off and an internal oil splash baffle from a LH cover.
