When I used my washer jets on the 9000 four lines of brown dirt came out about 2" long  . scared the life out of me momentarily, thought something had hit me but it soon cleared to water.

| Filtered it out through one of wifeys old stockings, it really didn't look nice then !
Also found them (stockings) quite useful as a paint filter when mixing paint up.
Recycling or just plain tight - you can be the judge on that  | |

| Nothing major to report on Betsy. I've been 'tinkering and fettling' rather a lot, but nothing worthy of a picture.
I have however been manufacturing an auxiliary light bar  The idea has been floating around for quite some time, but never materialised. A whole £2 bought the steel and so I began. I'm not actually aware whether the 'bend' will aid anything (bonnet catching when opened)but it looks better than a straight piece and more in tune with the BMC Works Mini type.
Supporting arms (middle still to make) will bolt to the lower front panel and are shaped around the grill - I don't want to be removing these every time I need to take the grill off. It does look rather big, but most of it will be hidden behind the bumper. Quite surprising how much the ensemble weighs too !.

| MOT passed today I dropped her off early Saturday morning and had the
call about half nine. A small matter of a leaking rear wheel cylinder scuppered plans for a quick Pass. Fortunately I had bought a couple of wheel cylinders a while ago "just in case"  I did manage to get it swapped on Saturday, but overran into the afternoon, so not enough time for the retest.
Aldi first thing, when it's nice and quiet and then dropped Betsy back for retest = job done.
On the drive down there was a distinct lack of power if you put your foot down - ok if you eased the power on steadily though. Much better once warmed through, but still lacking. I hadn't touched anything apart from porting the heads. All things pointed to a lack of fuel/lean mixture. I took the main jets out (28/36 DCD), both we're 130's. Which isn't anywhere near judging by my web research. I've ordered 2 replacements from Eurocarb, sizes as per their advice.
With the porting and correct jets my fingers are crossed for a real change in the power??. | |

| Good job on the lights,  . Good to know you have a 28/36 also. Hoping mine will true and smooth. Does it have numbers on the jets, how do you tell what they are?

| Yes, jets are clearly identified and very easy access.
I can't remember exactly what the recommended No's were, but were very close to my Web research. Cortina 1500GT(from the web) should be a 150 Primary and 160 Secondary. The No's he gave me were somewhere close, so went with his 'knowledge'. Idle jets at 50 & 70 were spot on.

Spotlight bar now fully attached. Painted in the chrome effect aerosol-time will tell on the longevity of the finish. Looks ok for now though
The outer 2 lights are for now wired into the main beam. But, I think these will end up being 'fogs' and on a separate switch leaving the middle 2 (once purchased) for main beam driving. I can't foresee me needing 4 main beam spotlights for my driving style, or the output of my alternator
If anyone is thinking of copying the design?
I used 25 x 3mm flat bar, but would probably advise going thicker than the 3mm. Even with the triangulation mounting points there is still flex at the outer edges. Saying that, the 3mm is easily shaped. I only used a vice and some pushing/pulling by hand (maybe a hammer for the tighter radius curves) |

| Had a few good runs out in Betsy over the weekend. Only to find that there was no heat! Which is odd considering it's usually overly warm.
Disconnected the water pipes into the valve to find thick almost wet sand like substance in a rust colour. I removed the valve and just connected the pipes direct through the heater box for Sunday's trip- super warm, too super warm.
After cleaning the valve out I found it was leaking from the seal on the small rear pushrod. I was going to give up on it until I saw the £159 for a new one. Stripped it down,made a new seal from some sheet rubber I have, and a little gutter seal for good measure. All appears well, we have controllable heat and no leaks - fingers crossed. | |
