Thanks Woody - nice view of a well prepared engine bay - you can see the oil cooler behind the LH headlamp

Work has progressed, albeit slowly on the '96. I'm about to get to work on the engine and gearbox prior to replacing them. My thread is here -

I plan to remove the manifolds, do some work on smoothing and enlarging the exhaust ports.
I have the usual Jetex exhaust to go on. I have a twin choke intake manifold which I'm pairing with a Nikki carb and remote air box which I'll pinch from something else, maybe a panel type from a Volvo 140 series.
I have the CV joints all wrapped up on the hubs and gearbox, can anyone tell me what sort of grease I should use? I need to change the clutch while I'm at it....I see a kit on ebay at £165 which seems good value.

Nikki carbs don't fit the Saab twin choke manifolds afaik, so you'll need to fabricate an adaptor. Curious to hear why you want to use a remote air box.

I use ordinary ball bearing grease mixed with some mos2 grease for the CV joints.

Yeah, the nikki carbs I have fit right on, they were after all a copy of a Weber down draught, the sort that a lot of Fiats had in the late 60s. Pancake filters are pretty lousy imo although they look good, a nice volume of cold filtered air away from the heat of the block should improve hot starting as well as overall performance.

What type of Nikki carb do you have? I have a D2832E-2D with an SAH adaptor for a single choke manifold; the stud pcd on the adaptor differs from that of the "proper" twin choke manifold.

I agree about pancake filters, I dislike the intake noise as well. I use a modified Solex 32TDID filter housing on a Weber 28/32 and I never have issues with hot starts. I have a K&N cone filter, ducting and a plenum for a Weber 32DGAV, but I've never tried how that set-up would affect performance.

I have 3 or 4 Nikki twin chokes and a variety of adaptor plates, so I'm confident* I can get something to work out! I don't know what model they are but they all have a roughly 40x30mm glass window on the float bowl.

I have a copy of the SAH Catalogue with kit that included a Nikki Carb conversion, There was included with it an article on a V4 with said conversion. Have to dig it out.
Just searched and Peter Christy posted the article 2011:-

If you come 'upwards' on the M4 or A46 any time I'd appreciate a bit of encouragement, the manlab is still near Stroud.
