Does anyone else have a problem with the hole being a little too large for the valve thus causing leaks. Also when I keep being told that they do not have a 'centre' big enough in order to balance the wheel !
Just a local cheapo tyre place. Might have to order a couple of inner tubes. I had to nip out from work today as the pressure had dropped a little quicker than usual.
I hav a set of old rims with the round holes (-69 i think ). One in the set is even older than the others and this one requires a larger valve. I don't know the diameter but the normal valves would definitely not fit.
There is no problem balancing the steel rims, you just need a very large cone. Soccerballs are a different story though. Here you need a 5-stud adapter since there is no usable center hole. The adapter can also be used for the steel rims but it's much easier with the cone.

Interesting, never knew that. I have (at least) 4 different types of oval hole wheels, will measure the valve holes next time I'm in the workshop.
I have the larger valves fitted. Maybe I need to get the tyres and valves removed and have a good clean and repaint around the valve hole! The guys at the tyre place did put plenty of rim sealant around the valve area, but I guess this will 'dry' out at some time and cause a leak.
There must be a shortage of large cones in Leeds !!
There are basically 2 sizes of valves. Wheels with the bigger holes were used for inner tubes. As tubeless tyres became universal as radials took over they changed to the smaller size to suit the pop in valves. Many young tyre fitters will have never fitted a tube and may not realise that there is a larger size and Kwik type places probably don't have any large valves on the shelf. Readily available on the Bay if you need them. Useful to have spares if your car has the need.
