| I was recently contacted by a family looking for a good home for their recently deceased father's Saab 99.
The 99 has been in a garage for nearly 30 years. It was apparently pristine when it was parked, but their father was something of a hoarder and the car was slowly buried over time. His family have uncovered it to the point where I could have a look around it today.
The front end was still buried, so we weren't able to have a look at the engine bay or the front end. The tyres were flat but thankfully it looks like the handbrake wasn't applied, so once inflated it will hopefully roll out of there. The seats weren't in the best shape - unlike the V4 there's not much vinyl, so the cloth part looks like a lot of other Saab's of this age!
The bodywork does have some surface rust here and there, and the leading, lower edge of the rear arches has gone, but on the whole, the car looks nice and straight. I had a look under the carpet at the corners of the floor and it's hard to tell what state it's in, as the body coloured sound deadening material may be covering up some rust. Obviously an inspection from underneath would be called for. The lower edge of the doors and sills felt OK, but I didn't have a proper look at them, as there wasn't a great deal of room around the car.
The car is located nr Liss in Hampshire. If you're interested in it, please get in touch with me and I'll put you in touch with the family.
