Hi All,
Anyone got any experience of applying for a logbook (V5C) just on the chassis number.
I have a couple of projects, one of which is a very, very rusty 95 (the other is a Honda motorcycle...) where I don't have a registration number but I do have a chassis number.
I believe that I can't submit a V62 unless I have both the chassis number and the reg number.
So my question's are:
How do I gain a registration number? (MOT first...?)
How do I check to see if a vehicle is on the DVLA system?
I have done quite a bit of digging online but can't come up with a definitive answer and know there are some knowledgeable folk on here so any info appreciated!
I have recently done a V62 for an old VW that has been off the road for many years. I had the chassis number and the reg number but was nervous that they matched but it all came back good, that was a relief!
Cheers

I may be of limited help.
I recently went through the process with a car which had not changed hands since 1974. It did have an old V5 (before V5C) and a "buff logbook". It had not been "sorned" and DVLA said that the change of owner/keeper which was sent off must have been lost in the post. My thought was that they didn't know how to deal with the old version. I eventually had to phone for help before it went back on the road. They did ask for photos of the chasis plate, where it was attached in the car, and some photos of the complete car. A wee while later I was sent a V5C.
Of course, differences are that I had the documents and plate number. Chassis plate... "I say nothing"

Hi Guys,
Peter - thanks, I have sent you an email. Might show up in spam as it's from my work address. Really interested to see if it shows up.
Rhys - I suspect this one will have never been sorned, I believe it has sat for over 20 years, I'll keep you posted!
Cheers

Hi Guys,

Rhys - meant to say mine also, had seen yours hadn't too.

A bit more DVLA digging suggests maybe I have to fill in a V55/5. I might try and phone the DVLA for some advice, back in Sheffield there used to be an office where they were actually very helpful but I don't think these exist anymore.

A big thank you to Peter who had a look on the register but unfortunately it didn't show up.

Cheers
