Don't think I have seen this mentioned on the forum so thought members might like to know that Wheeler Dealers (now with Ant Anstead) are restoring a SAAB 96 in the episode airing on Monday 22nd - Discovery Channel at 9pm. Will be USA spec but guess it will be pretty much the same. Think Anstead was involved in the BBC programme that did a 96 a couple of years ago - think John was involved in sourcing the car.
Cheers..Ian

Good episode, though as in the time when SAAB was on Top Gear, no mention of the Free Wheel.
Also a bit short on "technical stuff". Though it has been said that that was why Ed China wanted out, because the producers wanted less technical stuff, and more "razamataz".
I understand the reasons why it moved to the US, it's a worldwide brand now, but I still prefer the older UK versions of the programme.
Thoughts guys??

Oh, and Mike Brewer calling it a nine six, I was screaming at the screen, Ninety Six ya plonka!!

Recorded it for viewing later - probably tonight
Must say that now it’s an over inflated American product I don’t enjoy it as much. Ed was always the star of the show.

Aye, Mr Brewer was always just a chubby, used car salesman. As you say, Ed was, the star of the show. Ant is doing a good job, I'm not knocking him at all, I just preferred Ed!!!

I quite enjoyed it, particularly the windscreen surround repair. Thought it totally lacks detail on all the work done to the car.

If you watch Project Blinky: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hCPODjJO7s, it spoils you for the real detail in doing repairs and making parts.

I thought it was a bit pointless showing metal repairs you need 20 years of experience and a few grand's worth of gear to do properly.

Yes, they couldn't quite seem to decide if they were calling it a 9-6 or 96.

Was impressed with the clutch change on the drive. Used to be able to do that in an hour!

It was good to see a 96 on the programme but agree they skipped over a bunch of things that were probably more interesting than what they did feature - I would have been interested to see how they managed to get the headliner and interior sorted for one. Just need to accept the general viewer is less of an anorak than we are I guess. Just of to bin the old badges and get some of those shiny new 9-6 ones!!

Watched it last night and not as bad as expected. Fair play to Ant.
Impressed by the windscreen cutting and the scuttle repairs. Didn’t really offer much else though.
Might even watch another episode

The scuttle repair isn’t that technical. You only really need the shrinker, stretcher and a mig. A vice and angle iron is enough for bending short pieces. I have done similar repairs and I’m a relative novice. What would have been interesting was to see if there was any rust lurking in the engine bay/floorpan and where the rear wings joined the body.

A bag of shot, a ball peen hammer and lots of practice pieces of metal is whats needed for the amateur to do that job.

Ed did show how to do a similar repair on one episode. I think it might have been the Mini.
