Is it for sale? Looks like the cups are not too hard to make.

I was thinking the same (about the cups, not hard to make up)

I could sell it as I have a modern Sealey Compressor shoe version - I'll check tonight that it's the correct part number (came with a bunch of later Saab 900 tools, only thing I had for the 96 was the pinion shaft removal tool)

I'd have to get a price on shipping too, it is heavy!

I could perhaps collect in person to save on shipping? ;) I got the part numbers from the parts book so I assume they are the right ones, but I vaguely remember different numbers have been used for this tool?

8995060 is the scissors for use on V4s with cups 786124 x 2
8995011 is the scissors for use on 99s with cups 8995029 upto Mod 1972
I have been of the impression the scissors are the same but interchange the cups. This is confirmed in the V4 parts book.
Saab developed a slightly different shaped scissors for use with 1973+ 99s
89955839 which used handed half cups at the bottom and bent upper arms which hooked directly to the spring coil upper.
I am not aware that the later scissor could be used on V4s.

The scissors in the photos above appear to have been modified by bending in the arms to use directly on the coils. I don't believe that would be safe to use without the cups, as the spring would be encouraged to bow as the scissor is tightened up. I also suspect they are copies of Saab's Tool as the threaded winder has more bulk.
The pic of the scissors posted by Melle is of the V4 type which were usually used with an additional clamp tool which hooked into the underside of the upper wishbone and a claw located against the body to pull the wishbone down against the rubber buffers. This clamp part was deleted in Sept 1975.

brilliant info - thanks....

Woody is there anything you don't know about SAABs??!?

This came originally from the dealership in York, but I'm not sure of their authenticity. And you're correct about the arms, I tried using it without the cups and didn't get far before my sphincter gave out. I guess with the correct cups the arms could be bent back to their original position....

Brecks Garage? If that is the case then I stand corrected, as judging by the nos they could be very early pattern of the tool. Brecks were dealers for years.

Yep that’s the one. Steve Binns was a neighbour and turned up with a box of tools one night, was probably going to chuck them out!!!

Yes, that looks like it could be bent back. I prefer a complete set with original cups, but would definitely consider yours if nothing suitable turns up. I'm not in a real hurry though.
