I have a new lock barrel for my drivers door, but I need the little arm that's fixed to the end.
The one that actually operates the lever inside the door, to open the door. The type with a small oblong groove/hole that matches the slotted key that you can see in the end of the barrel, in the photos below. Held with a small screw that can also be seen in the photos.
Other types of barrel/locks have a round shaft, with a circlip. This type will not fit.

Let me know,

Andy

Hi Andy,

This is going to sound daft, but can't you use the one that's currently on your car?

If no-one comes up with a spare, it's probably not too difficult to make your own.

Simon.
There are two types of lock barrel mechanism. On one, the barrel end has a slotted key, like the one in the photos. The arm has a slot in it that matches the key. The arm is held on with a screw.

On the other type, there is a round shaft protruding from the end of the barrel, and the actuating arm has a matching round hole in it. The arm is held onto the shaft (not very efficiently!)with a spring clip.

On this type, (Currently fitted to my drivers door), the spring clip tends, over time, to let the actuating arm slip up the shaft. This in turn allows the whole barrel assembly to move outwards, (just by a couple of milli), and then the whole barrel assembly swivels in the door handle, UNLESS you hold it with your thumb, each time you turn the key. I've even tried aralditing the spring clip, but it still eventually moves.

I want to change the second type for the 1st type. I have the assembly shown in the photos, but lack the slotted arm.
On my locks, the system with the circlip has a twin edged key, the system with a slot and screw, has a single edged key. Not sure if this is significant?

I have now found an arm, from one of the Edinburgh crew.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for clearing that up - I didn't realise you had the other type fitted to your car.

Glad you've got it sorted.

Unfortunately this story is not yet closed.

I've had 2 more keys cut, but now realise that I also need the chrome barrel, that slides over the barrel assembly....
Can anyone help?

Andy

I have a spare chrome barrel to which you would be welcome. Do you need it now or will Alford be soon enough ?
I also have an actuator arm, but take it you no longer need this ?
Derek

Deggsie
Thanks mate.
Alford will be fine.

Thanks to Woody as well, but I think Deggsie has it covered as well.
