My 96 has rust in the rust repairs where the boot floor meets the sides. It seems that the flanges where the floor and sides are spot welded together are a natural rust trap. I'm thinking of doing away with this flange altogether, by putting a 90 degree bend along the length of repair panels then butt welding one side to the boot floor, and the other to the side panel. Apart from 'loss of originality' can anyone think of any down sides to this solution?
Thanks Dave. Just had a little niggle whether rigidity might be compromised, though I suspect it was there for ease of manufacturing. The upsides - apart from eliminating a rust trap are: less metal used = weight saved & less welding = time saved
