| I know I've seen a thread on this forum about making skid plates for the 96. But I'm wondering if anybody has a good guide that includes dimensions for what works best (with stock exhaust). I'm also needing to know where/how to set up a tow/recovery point on the car - what's best practice? If anybody has pictures of how they've done it, that would be appreciated.

| Hi, We call it a sump guard here in the UK. In the Saab Sport & Rally Catalogue it states the size of a standard V4 guard as: Length 108(112)cm Width 21/40cm I would also suggest longitudinal reinforced metal strips x 3 (cold riveted or welded).

| For my 96 ('70, so no factory towing eyes) I've made brackets that bolt onto the bumper brackets, the M10 (or 3/8 UNC in the US) lifting eyes that screw into them sit just under the bumper over riders and work great for towing with a rope. I also made a detachable cross bar with an eye for towing with a rigid bar, I mainly use it for pushing the car onto the lift with a tractor if needed.

Does anybody have information on how the sump guard should be attached to the body? I've seen photos of the front brackets the bolt onto the inner fenders, but how is the rear end of the guard attached? | |

| An exceedingly hi tech hardwood block! Two long bolts and through the engine bay floor. Even with the steel bands there is a fair bit of flex in the sumpguard, and a big rock (or an untrained mechanic with a trolley jack) will put a bend in the middle, so on mine I've got two ford escort type rubber engine mounts about halfway along, in fact, now that I think about it, they would probably be ideal to mount the back of the guard on as well.

One question, that I do not feel the need to start a new thread for, I've seen "rally springs" for a 96 on a Swedish website. Are these just stiffer springs? Longer springs?
