also the hole in the centre of that pic....should it be plugged?...there's a lot of greasy gunge in it
also, i have 2 steadies on this car, both on n/s, one connected to rear of l/h cyl hd and one unconnected, but looks like it wants to connect to area at rear of clutch slave cyl see http://s255.beta.photobucket.com/user/ade55/media/saab%2096/engine%20bay/DSCF1588_zps1562a00d.jpg.html would anyone have a pic of what the bracket that holds it on looks like? the steadies seem to be held to the inner arch by self-tap screws...is this normal?
I see what you mean now. The lower one is an 'extra', it's mentioned in the S&R catalogue. Maybe one of the rally guys can confirm how it should be connected? And yes, it's normal that they're connected to the inner arch with four screws.
Clutch fork shaft is normally capped, although the parts book doesn't mention the cap.

The forward/engine steady is mounted to the inner wing by 4 pozi slot dome-head screws. The rear (shorter) stay is mounted by similar screws to a cone which is secured at the suspension turret on one of the wishbone bearing brackets. The angle bracket as shown below is mounted to the transmission. Due to the thinner thickness of the angle bracket only one of the top-hat rubber bushes is used vehicle side and a flat rubber washer the other side. The bracket is shown in the rally catalogue as it was required to be added to the existing bracket to lengthen it and move the side stay to the upper bearing bracket bolt as in standard form it got in the way of the competition exhaust down pipe. This isn't explained, though is found in the FIA papers which shows said mod in place.

That one didn't seem to get answered - it is the return spring for the clutch release assembly.It is a twist spring that flexes when the clutch is depressed.Get someone to push the clutch in while you watch/ feel it move.
