| Has anyone ever tried something modern like these or any other contemporary valve stem seal variant on a V4?

The standard seals on our engines get brittle with the years and the design is, ehh, not very sophisticated.

| "Silver" open deck engines have a rigid plastic cap, nor unlike the ones in your picture, its the later black engines that have the fall apart rubber ones. I guess the new type were cost down.I have head heads off to cure that more than once, there was even a special tool to allow replacement without removing the heads. The more modern types might be worth a try, its back to the future like the silver engines, cant do too much harm? | |

Take the plug out, shove some rope down the hole, then turn the engine over (by hand!) until the piston pushes the rope up into the head!
You can then change the seals without removing the head!

| Compressed air also does the job, you can make an adaptor for the air hose from an old spark plug.
