| I've been following the instructions in the Haynes manual, which seem to be lifted directly from the manual on Melle's website, but I'm struggling to remove the steering lock barrel. I've turned the key to the indicated position, which is about half way between 'P' and 'G', and made up a pick using a wire coat hanger. It looks to be a bit less than the specified 2mm diameter, but is the nearest thing I could find. With the pick bent to the recommended dimensions (or pretty close) it doesn't go as far round the side of the barrel as the drawing suggests it should. However, the drawing looks to be for a LHD car and mine is RHD. How far through the hole should the pick reach? and am I missing anything obvious? |

| I've found some slightly thicker wire, one of a pair of wire hook things that were used to remove car stereos years ago. By jiggling that in the hole, I've now got the key locked in position with only a couple of degrees of movement, but the lock lug won't retract. | |

| Persevere. It will come out eventually, but it can be a right faff from what I remember.

| Thanks Melle, just wanted confirmation that I'm not doing something obviously wrong. Spent a bit more time jiggling but got no further. I'm going to have to drill the barrel out of the one that's in the car, as I have no key - unless someone can lend me a bag of keys to try? This one is a spare column that I do have a key for, so I must persevere... | |

| Not sure if this an option for you - but I found it a LOT easier to remove the barrel when the steering column was removed from the car.
