| Could the "thick" head be a low compression one from an industrial engine, pump or forklift? | |

| Heads for high and low compression engines are identical, also the industrial ones.

| In Jack Ashcrafts guide to tuning he mentions differences between 1500 and 1700 engines which as well as the crankshaft and pistons he says include the balance shaft, CYLINDER HEADS, intake manifold, valve springs, some manifold bolts and the CYLINDER HEAD BOLTS. He goes on to say the only item that won't interchange are the 1700 cylinder head bolts as they are 7.5mm longer. | |

| I've worked on and broken a good few V4s and I've never found a difference between 1.5 and 1.7 heads or head bolts, nor does the parts book mention any differences as far as I'm aware (only between open and closed deck engines). That being said, I've never actively compared the parts, will do so next time I'm in the workshop, always happy to learn something new!
The difference in manifold bolts is related to the type of manifold, nothing to do with 1.5 or 1.7.
