Make sure to check the balance shaft bearings for wear if you haven't done so already, or the fibre balance shaft gear won't last long. If you aim at producing serious power at some point, you may want to upgrade to an all-metal timing gear set.

More pics of my engine. Coming along, slowly :)
I was able to get out that stuck seal thankfully. I managed to get a flathead screwdriver behind and edge from the outside then just tapped downward with some firm blows and it finally popped out.

Putting it together, making some progress. This was a mock up, will take it apart down to the head and torque everything and do valve clearance adjustments.

Some rally lights added, still need to wire them up, test inside my house and they light up nicely

A Swedish license plate for the back end for looks only, the US plates look alot different so it's cool here.

Another view of the front end with the rally lights added (Hella 500 black)

Some more progress today.

Locked everything down, and torqued, did the valve adjustment. Put on the Weber carb and intake manifold, and installed the distributor.

Got the engine off of the stand and onto the hoist, so I could install the flywheel and clutch.

Little homemade tool for holding the lightened flywheel for install while I torqued it. Looks ugly but worked good, just some scrap I had with the perfect lip on it to grab a tooth and lock the flywheel in place.

Put the engine back in today. It was kinda hard to do, I couldn't find my clutch alignment tool. Now I need to hook everything up and see if I can get it going. I have a new respect for auto mechanics after gettting into this project :)

This is the new clutch installed, the red tabs are a shim provided by Mark Ashcroft to modify the Sach clutch, not sure what else he does to it but I noticed what looked like shims under the pressure springs.

I had a new Timken throwout bearing but the old one was good and looked to be better made, so I kept it in there after giving it a good clean and grease.

Engine in, I just took it slow.

Getting the splines to connect... Like threading a sewing needle blindfolded.

Got the engine going. I need to work out some kinks with the throttle linkage to the weber, and do the strobe light timing, but she's coming along and sounds strong!
Can't wait to drive it.

Congrats, having a rebuilt engine running for the first time is always a nice milestone! I think you should be able to get it to idle at a lower rpm, or was the engine still running on (part) choke when you filmed above clip?
