I live in Vancouver, Canada and have a few 1967-1968 Saab v4s. The 1967 is a Monte Carlo but the 1968s are Deluxe models. Saab apparently sold the Monte Carlo naming rights to Chevrolet for the Chev Monte Carlo. Did they continue using the Monte Carlo name in Europe any time after 1967? I would rather use Monte Carlo labeling with the cars rather than the Deluxe. By the way, the Saab 96 was never sold in Canada, so these cars have all been imported from the US.

Also, the Monte Carlo/Deluxe models used a Lucas L757 front parking/signal light in North America. Was this front light used in Europe at all?

Hi,
Welcome to the forum. That's really interesting about the Monte Carlo name, I always thought it was only used on two strokes but I don't know too much about the early V4s.
Be great to see some pictures of you collection - you need to post a few times on here before you can put pictures on but if you email me a couple by pm I can post for you.
Cheers
Gareth

Welcome Vic

I imported my 71 when we emigrated from the UK (now in Ontario) - I've only ever seen 3 96's in Ontario (probably for the reason stated on your original post, never imported to Canada, so must have originally been US cars)

Saab being the "parts bin" manufacturer that they were, the Lucas lights must have been used on something else, Austin 1100 or the Maxi.....

AFAIK we didn’t get Monte Carlo v4’s in the UK but we did get Deluxe models up to 1970-ish. I have seen Swedish and Dutch Monte Carlo v4’s and I think the only difference to the Deluxe is the tachometer.

I think Iain is right I’ve got a 1967 deluxe and mine doesn’t have a tachometer as standard and it does have Lucas indicator lights in it and hella headlights I would post a picture but can never seem to upload one.

Iain G: do you mean that the Swedish and Dutch Monte Carlo models had the tachometer or not? My 1967 V4 Monte Carlo has the tach, as do my 1968 Deluxe models.

As for my Lucas L747 front signal light, I found a single NOS lens in France for a rather significant sum. I still purchased it as I will likely cast a few of them using a silicone mold. And yes, it was referenced as being used by another British marque: Aston-Martin. Not likely to find any bargains on this one!

Think it should be L757 in VLM's last post.
Betsy67 has the L757 front indicator/side lights fitted. I have 2 of them - NOS in boxes in the garage [:-)]

Betsy67: I'm jealous and covetous!

And yes, I should have typed 757. My nine year old wanted to 3D print a Boeing 747 in our new 3D printer - must be that rather than my deteriorating frontal cortex (please!).

RhysN: Thanks for the tip. However, close but no cigar. The L757 has a different pattern on the lens on the shorter side. Also, these don't have the screw whole through the lens. On the inside of the L757 there is an orange shell and a metal divider. Lucas likely cast the Vanden Plas less from a mold derived from the L757 (or visa versa).

I am pretty sure Swedish and Dutch Monte Carlos have the tachometer. All the Deluxe models I ever saw did not have the tachometer but I never saw a US Deluxe.

That looks very much like an MG one. Which was the only one I could find with a side/indicator in one unit!
