| I just watched John Morris's video, it's pretty informative. I've been in touch with him a few times over the years, he's a true V4 enthusiast.

| Car 55 - thanks for the link, stayed awake and I actually think very interesting. Who knew there were skidsteer enthusiasts out there - I want one! Funnily enough I rarely go on UKSAABS just through lack of time really but one of the few threads I have read on there was your (I think it was you!) SAAB engine into the Focus - love it!
The lack of core plugs on the side of the block (as described in the video) shows it to be an open deck engine and the code times it right to be the original block which is nice. I wonder if there is a way of confirming via records somewhere? The 'Title' which I guess is the equivalent of our 'V5' doesn't have the engine number.
The engine then has one open deck head and one closed and I will just use it like that for now and see what happens. I imagine one side has the wrong head gasket so I will probably find it gets a little hot, we shall see.
As I can't drive anywhere at the moment I have been doing a few other jobs. I have taken the front suspension apart to play with and have fitted much needed new front flexi hoses and have the rears on the bench to go on next.
Despite lockdown have had just about the busiest April of my life so finding it hard to grab the daily half an hour in the garage that I aim for. Hopefully back on its wheels once we are allowed out again! | Edited by - Dirtbiker on 18 Aug 2020 21:56:11 | |

| I have some closed deck cylinder heads sitting under my racking, you can have them for the postage if that helps (unless you are in east Anglia and want to collect). I have a 1967 open deck v4 95 thats been under restoration since 1980...not given up as yet. PM me if intertested. Lee

| Hi Lee, Offer of heads much appreciated - I'll send you a pm. Your's is the red one right? Remember seeing it on here, be good to see an update even if it is just a recap. Hopefully a big update on mine this weekend - wheels on the ground after a stint on axle stands last night, maybe even a drive tomorrow! Cheers | |

| No time for a drive today but did find this golf score card in the void behind the rear seat while replacing brake hoses a couple of weeks ago.

| Hi All,
Haven't posted for a while but made a little progress with getting this one properly road worthy.
Following getting the floor sorted I gave the brakes fairly comprehensive rebuild. The handbrake wasn't doing anything and all the flexis were well past their best plus the hard pipes at the back were rotten. All sorted now though and brakes feel good.
Next up was some engine improvement. First up I have edited an earlier post - I have an early open deck (I wrote closed) which I hope is the original engine from the car. It does however have one closed deck head fitted. First up was a set of new plugs in the correct length (s!) which was a nerve racking operation. I triple checked I had the long ones on the correct side and turned it over by hand. Fired it up and this made a massive difference to running. It may have been that the old plugs were very old but I can't help thinking the correct plugs for the heads will have helped too.
Following the theme of ignition improvement I fitted a Powerspark electronic ignition and a new Bosch coil. I did these two things separately and it was the coil that made the biggest difference.
Running good now but not perfect - still need to check valve clearances. If that doesn't get it perfect I think I will source an open deck head and maybe remove and refurbish heads.
Not managed much else or found much time to drive it but got some pics with its brethren at the weekend.

| What Simon said - those wheels (and it looks a little lowered?) and roof rack are fantastic! | |

| Thanks all! Lowered, roofrack and wheels probably not to everyone's taste but I like it! Long term plan is air suspension but with no cutting of the structure of the car.
