I'm helping a friend get his 96 commissioned.
We've had several issues, one of which is trying to get the Twin Venturi Solex carb connected to the throttle linkage correctly.

No matter how much we fiddle with the length of the adjustable linkage connecting to the SAAB throttle rod, or the position of said throttle rod, we cannot get the throttle to operate, and open both throttle valves. It opens the first throttle, but then just runs out of "pull", to open the second.
It's hard to put into words, but the Solex throttle system seems to need to be pulled across, and then DOWN, to operate both throttle valves. The SAAB rod throttle system just can't seem to do this.

We've compared it with my car, which has a twin Venturi Weber. To operate both throttle valves it only needs to pull across the way, NOT down. It works perfectly.
I should say that my friend bought this car as a part finished project, so has never had this set up functioning properly during his ownership.
I suspect that there may be something missing from the linkage.
Any Solex gurus out there?

What type of Solex is it? Has the linkage been taken apart? Looks like it's been assembled incorrectly (throttle lever on the choke spindle etc.) The tab on the secondary spindle looks like it's not locked.

Below is how it's supposed to work on a Saab factory fitted 32TDID, but your friend's carb is a different type. I have factory literature of many types of Solex carbs, if you post a pic of the whole carb I can see if I have the relevant diagram and send you a scan.

That's the annoying thing about this carb, no type is written anywhere on it. It just says "Solex", and "British Made", on the side.
Inside it says 28 32, which are presumably the throat sizes.
We've looked very very carefully all round it.
Reading my carb book it that there should be an ID tag under one of the screws. It's obviously gone.

I'll get some more general photos of it, and post them, and perhaps you can identify the type.
The choke is the cable in the top of the photo. The SAAB throttle arm is connected to the throttle lever of the carb, because it does open the primary throttle flap, and just starts to open the secondary, but then runs out of travel, so to say.
I suspect that there is something wrong with the assembly of linkages on the side, with out a drawing, can't work out exactly what is wrong.
It doesn't appear to be covered by the Haynes Carb manual I have.

Unfortunately I only have factory literature on German Solex carbs. Google suggests it's a Solex 32 PAIA, perhaps from a Sunbeam/ Hillman.

My mate has bitten the bullet and bought a new 32/36 DGV Weber carb, from Fast Road Cars.
Problem solved!!!

Hello Andy,

I will be interested to know how your friend sets the linkage up using this carb; the same as I will be using on my project.

The carb that was on my car, prior to engine removal, is a Weber 34ICH. Their respective spindle linkages are different.

On the new Weber carb, we removed the lever that connects to the throttle of the car, which was set up for a,throttle cable.
We replaced it with the operating arm from the old Solex carb, which is set up with the arrangement for the throttle linkage on a SAAB 96.
ie it has the little ball on it that connects to the SAAB throttle link arm.
