| A few months back I posted looking to source a new tin tank Lockheed clutch master for the 96.
I ended up remortgaging the house and purchasing one from Skandix, which was described as a "genuine replacement part". The cost was 245 euros + 140 euros freight. Anyway....
The Skandix cylinder, whilst looking similar to the original, wont fit a RHD 96 because:
- the tank is offset 45 degrees clockwise to the baseplate, so it fouls the heater box; - it is 3"4 internal diameter - the clevis is too narrow to fit over the pedal.
After realising this I found that early minis had the same 5/8" unit which was superseded by 0.700" - and eventually by 0.075".
The number of the cylinder is GMC171, it has the correct dimensions and correct clevis, just one small difference - the union nut thread is 3/8 and not the 7/16 size. I retapped the threaded insert and increased the diameter of the port slightly.
The best (or worst part, depending how you look at it) is that the GMC171 cylinder is 1/4 the price of the Skandix one and can be had a lot more easily.
Needless to say the Skandix cylinder is on its way back!

| I forgot to mention the new clutch hose purchased from Skandix also wouldn't fit, as it is approx 100mm too short and obviously for LHD fit only. Unfortunately their website doesn't make mention of that either....

| I’ve always wondered if the Mini clutch master would fit (they look very similar) so this is great info!! | |

| That's what I was afraid of. Thanks for the confirmation. Edit: I just had a look at GMC 171. Be aware that this is a brake master cylinder, so you might have to take the non-return valve out. The part number for the Mini clutch master cylinder is AAU4969.

Correct, the application is a brake master cylinder in early Minis - a single circuit without a non-return valve.
The Mini clutch master AAU4969 doesn't fit as the tank is oriented 180 degrees to the baseplate, whereas the Saab unit has the tank and filler cap at right angles to the mounting so that the filler cap is directly above the inlet fitting.
I'll get some photos up when I can.
