| A 95 would be nice especially in opal green, it might fit in my garage as well!!
Drove the new 9000 back 180 miles home and she didn,t miss a beat, so the gamble paid off buying unseen. She is going to be a keeper.
box.

| Arms aching this morning must be getting old. Polished the 9000 twice and the 96 to try and get the tiny scratches out. I think somebody must have gone over it with T Cut at some point. Need one of those electric polishers I think if anyone has any suggestions, budget of £50-60. She has come up well from a distance, kinda makes me want to keep her original despite dings etc. Getting a match for Opal Green is pretty impossible, the code is not recognised on the 3-4 systems classic paint suppliers use. it seems it came from an unusual source, "parsons" maybe, not one of the usual paint manufacturers but an industrial one.

| Looks great . . . . . . .
Hindsight is a great thing but I should never have taken my car off the road to " tidy it up".
You have done a fantastic job thus far Zagato. If I were you, knowing where I have been, I would continue with the treatments to ensure long term durability then put it back together and run it . Spring ,then Summer . . . . . .feel chuffed with what you have achieved and have a blast with a big grin on your face
Cheers

| A couple of years back, when a window cleaner ran into the back of my 96, I too had a problem trying to locate the right paint, despite it being SAAB standard red! The paint code was either R2 or 2R (can't remember which!), but the bodyshop computer didn't recognise it! However, when he put in "Toreador Red" it immediately came up with SAAB R2!!!
Try getting them to search for SAAB Opal Green, instead of the code. It might just work, though *why*, I have no idea!!!

| I would be inclined to keep the original paint if at all possible. Maybe get it looked at by someone who knows how to restore paintwork. They should be able to seal it which should prevent any further deterioration especially as the car's kept garaged and is not going to be subjected to a lot of heavy use. Also could the dents not be improved upon by a dent remover. Sure to be a lot cheaper than a respray and at least the car remains original. | |

| James, I know what you mean but I,m going to carry on cleaning, rust preventing, doing things up over time and collecting stuff as I enjoy it when I have a free moment and then I am going to bung the whole lot up with Graham MacDonald when he has time to do the clutch, balance shaft and other bits. I have to clean paint the engine and paint/powder coat the coolant pipes, not sure what is best, plus a load of other stuff, no rush but I know what you mean. I hit a brick wall with a Land Rover project and sold it but this one I kind of savour and enjoy fiddling/cleaning things in my limited way. Graham is always there to put it all back together for me... In time.
Pete, yes we are hoping most of the dings will come out but not easy, some are quite deep, like knocking a nail into the panel almost so the metal may have stretched.
Thanks Derek nobody could find a Dupoint code which is the usual source, odd, so that could be the answer, will get on the blower tomorrow...

| The DuPont paint was available in Centari 500, a "component enamel", maybe that means 2 pack, and Imlar, a synthetic enamel. Catalogue is from 1989 as is the A&W one. | |

| Heard about a mint silver Aero, 94k, FSH etc which I rejected on colour, er and cost but it kept eating away at me and the more I looked into Areo,s the more desireable it became. Somebody else was "dithering" with a deposit so I made it mine .
My wife now wants to meet PChristy, as I blamed it on him, "I would snap it up if I were you, stop fussing over the colour". Don,t worry Pete, don,t think she will be coming to Swedish Day so you are safe lol.
Never had anything over 150BHP so this is just superb. Drove 250 miles back home yesterday after picking her up and she is definitely the best motor I have had, REALLY nice, soaked up the miles with occasional squirts of power, fantastic. This one is not for daily use, too good for that so she will reside next to the 96 as a weekender. Cannot bring myself to sell the other yet either, it only cost £700 and is so nice!!
Only twenty years difference between the two, wish I had been that productive!
Back to 96's and I am testing another clear product by Dinitrol, will post details when I have finished fiddling with the Aero! | Edited by - Zagato on 27 Feb 2016 14:47:50 | |

| Agreed John, realising I am pretty lucky with this one, had visits over the last two days from folk in the southern SAAB 9000 scene, poor old girl has been REALLY scrutinised, I feel I,ve just been through a concourse de' elegance competition!! I really put the work into her with toothbrushes and tweezers ( don,t ask!) all day Saturday into the night and Sunday morning before the guys all dropped in yesterday and today. Thankfully she is rot free, original windscreen, good underneath and mint body and interior so she presented herself well and rebuffed the critical eyes by herself and deserves her local crown. I just cleaned her up, her condition is down to her previous fastidious owner. The down side is I will be spending 2k on new tyres, wheel refurb as have a few scratches and want to do a sump drop, change vac hoses, new bushes probably etc etc to make her pretty well up together, so v4 is going to have to wait a few months before she gets attention but that,s ok. I sold the green one on Sunday sadly, I wanted to break her but she was too good for that... Not before I had swapped a few bits over though!!
The daily drive 9-5 had a flat battery this morning -groan- so had to do the school run in the Aero, wot a shame lol
